Re: The ending explained...

Yeah, but, like I said, most Kojima's villains usually end up being more complex. The main villain in Snatcher was jealous of Gillian, Liquid hated Snake for overshadowing him, and, with Peace Walker coming, it seems we haven't seen the last of Big Boss. With Policenauts, however, it is just a case...

Re: The ending explained...

Spoiler:
In her letter at the very end, she addresses Jonathan as her father. She grew up believing Hojo was her father, but Hojo married Lorraine while she was very pregnant and raised her as her own

Re: Policenauts VS. Snatcher.....which do you prefer?

There is a shoot-out scene on the moon when Ed and Jonathan are trying to get to the pod launcher and are ambushed by some Goddard units. Jonathan uses his recoil gun and some armor piercing rounds to take them down. Keep in mind that he's not using a lift gun, so how can he shoot that armored suit...

Re: The ending explained...

Kojima loves these old school plot devices. It's just a cheap way of cluing the reader in, and I actually do think the MASTER PLAN itself does make sense in this case (it's just a greed and power thing of the sort that actually does happen. Recently here in New Jersey they broke a huge corruption sc...

Re: So What Do We All Think of The Game?

Snatcher didn't really have a lot of gameplay going on either. Japanese adventures have all been like this, increasingly moreso as time goes on. Occasionally you get one with some puzzles like Phoenix Wright, but a lot of them are even more streamlined than Snatcher and Policenauts.

The dave shooting part is an optional scene if you hang around the shooting gallery a lot. There's also one with redwood there. I don't know if there are any others on top of that.

Re: Policenauts VS. Snatcher.....which do you prefer?

I think Policenauts felt more fully realized to me. Snatcher was so achingly derivative of Blade Runner that it didn't really feel like it was raising any of its own questions or themes, where Policenauts seems like a really thoughtful, well developed world with logic and science behind it that deal...

Re: Feature requests for future versions

Then make your own game that takes place in 2040, and put stupid internet dialect in it. Spend your own 8 years translating and hacking the game and do it your way. These guys did it their way because they wanted to and they happened to be the ones with the skills and motivation to do so. If they d...

Re: • Policenauts Veterans Thread: Sign Here Ifu Beat The Game •

Beat it. Better than Snatcher, hands-down. Movie-worthy script except for some awkward "Now I will explain my evil plan" expose. Kojima seems to be in love with a lot of old school plot devices. Sometimes it's retro and sometimes it's a little silly but more often than not it works really ...

Re: Feature requests for future versions

The internet language thing is the only one that bothers me only because it will become dated so quickly. To give you some quick replies, I used the internet terms because I'm imagining them as having fully migrated into mainstream speech by 2040 ( use of "fail" in particular is spreading...

Re: Possible English fandub of the voices?

Attempting to dub this was supposedly why Konami gave up on the US Saturn version in the first place. I can't imagine you'd have better luck than them.

Re: Feature requests for future versions

I'm currently writing a thread that will answer why there is the amount of swearing in the game that there is, why it has homophobic language, why it has a few internet words, why Jonathan sucks at grammar, among other points of contention. I think the cursing is an appropriate way to translate dis...

Re: Patch is up

Try Eternal SPU in Async mode, that should smooth out the audio a bit, but it might just be an issue with your computer's speed.

Re: Feature requests for future versions

One script revision that I'd recommend: There's a part where they're at a party and Jonathan asks Chris about her relationship with Sadaoki. She says he's her "main squeeze" and then says she meant it in a paternal sense. This double entendre doesn't translate at all. Wouldn't it be better...

Re: Feature requests for future versions

Saturn version might be cool as it's the latest and arguably most complete with light gun support and more scenes, PLUS you'd be able to reuse most of your existing work as far as graphics and script go. PC98 version would be interesting because it's probably the most different, and hacking-wise I'd...

Re: My ePSXe settings

PeOPS SPU has a major issue with Policenauts; If you interrupt the game by hitting esc and then resume the sound drops out and the game may freeze.

Eternal SPU seems to work much better. Put it in thread mode, and it sounds great, no problems.

Re: One screenshot, three questions.

Yeah, certain frames in the movies appear corrupt, and this has nothing to do with the patch (and doesn't seem to be any different with different plugins either). I haven't tried it on real hardware, but it might just be like that.

Re: Feature requests for future versions

I don't know if it's possible, but a cursor speed option that also affects the shooting bits would be dandy. Also maybe some tweaking of the subtitle timing from the native Japanese as some things clearly go by faster than they can comfortably be read. If you guys actually do another port of the gam...

Re: Patch is up

Big thanks to Marc, slowbeef, and Artemio. I haven't been posting here, but I've been lurking and following for years. It's really a tremendous effort, and easily the best transhack to come out since at least Innocent Sin, and among the best ever. The game itself is really something too, and while I...
