Yep, after Policenauts. Well, unless everything goes awry.

Now that Policenauts is complete, are you guys getting started on this bad boy?

Well, what would you guys like to see? Sega CD translation transplanted into the PCE version? Same translation but typos fixed? Slightly different translation (with some phrasing changed)? Translation in the style of Policenauts?

Either of the later two, imo. If transplanting the existing translation, then I might as well just play the Sega CD version (yeah I know there are differences, but they aren't MAJOR). Though to be honest, since last I heard it would be very hard/impossible to subtitle the speaking parts, this isn't a must-have for me. I'd rather the time be spent on other versions of Policenauts (Saturn or PC98). If patching those is very difficult, maybe provide a document detailing the script differences illustrated with screenshots instead? Just my 2 cents.

Same as Sega CD, but without censorship. Of course, in parts like the Outer Heaven bar, you'd have to change the text since the Contra, Castlevania, and Goemon characters wouldn't be there. By the way, thanks again for your awesome work on Policenauts!!

I think it should be a translation of the PC Engine script, rather than just ripping the Sega CD version. That way we'll get to experience alternative scripting.

Yeah, if anything, I would like to see your take on the script, Marc (I know it is a bit cheeky, but I was really impressed with your Policenauts script) even if it is just a few tweaks here and there (like you said, there are a few typos in the game). :D

One of the posts we lost when the db was changed by our service providers was Marc's reply.

He replied that he won't be taking on this project.

You know I thought that something was wrong, because I remember reading it and reply'n to it....
A day later it was like it never happened! I was starting to think that maybe it was just some weird dream I had...LOL!

So I'll post what I said again :

I don't blame Marc for dropping out of it, It's really not worth the time and effort.
We got a great version of the PCE game with the SCD version, and we get an extended intro and ending + other stuff.

There are more differences between the SCD and Sega Saturn/PSX versions of the game than between the PCE and SCD.
If someone would like to translate that?

Ah, okay, fair enough. I don't mind there being a PCE version translation anyhow, since it would have been just an extra thing.

In regards to Ash's post, I don't really see the point in translating the PSX/Saturn versions, since they sorta suck. The music is terrible, I don't like the updated graphics/colouring at all, there's censorship all over those two versions and the 3D intro sequence was horrible. Seriously, it's like playing a really flawed version of a masterpiece.

I'd love to just see the PC Engine script translated, without the censorship.

Yeah I didn't like it either!
I was just saying that the PSX/SS has more changes made to it than the PCE to SCD, so it would be more logical...eventhough the changes really suck!

A poll is in order.

But, I would prefer the PC Engine version myself. Only because I don't own a Sega CD!

I would prefer the Pc Engine version to be translated to, since it's the definitive version. The PSX/Saturn ones defeat the fun of Snatcher, by not only censoring them, but adding crappy 3d into the mix. Snatcher's charm relied on it's ability to narrate a story with megadrive graphics.

Just as a reminder, as stated above there is no ongoing project.

So you mean, no-one is starting work on the PC Engine one?

It'd be great to see this, then we can emulate it on the Wii.

So I'm guessing this ain't happening no more (I'm actually posting to resurrect interest in this project). I want to play the Pc Engine in it's original form in English. (Bit of a contradiction there, but you get what I mean).

Hi all,

Sorry to resurrect this old topic.

But perhaps some peoples would be ok to help the project now ?

Is it possible to have the hand on what has been done before the dev stopped ?

Thanks :)

The last post prior to yours was 2 years ago, I think it's stopped.
If they ARE planning to revive it, which I kinda doubt, I think it'd be done after the SDATCHER translation is done
....
Though I'd rather have a retranslation of the MSX Snatcher since the existing fantranslation has poor grammar. Or maybe the Snatcher remake that hasn't been discussed in a while.

Sorry I might have misspoken.

I wanted to say that perhaps some peoples might have the will to do this project. That is why I'm asking if it's possible to have the data of the work done 'till the project stopped.

I don't think anything substantial got finished. If someone were to pick this back up they would need to start from the beginning.

if any piece of text has been translated or if all the texts has been extracted it's already a big help ...

As I said, almost nothing got done.
They where planning on using the Sega CD's script and I don't know how far they got with the hacking bits but I can tell you right now it wasn't much.

... Wouldn't it be better if a few PC-E exclusive scenes have been restored on the SEGA CD version? I'm still not sure if the Konami code does work, but I do believe that replacing sounds on the PC-E version with the SCD sounds may not be possible.

Why isn't it clear that the code works or not? If the Konami code is inputted, you hear a sound and that's it. Nothing really happens.
Right? Or is there something I'm missing?

On topic though, too bad that the translation got stalled. Now I listened to the PCE OST I'm wanting to know how this version holds up (in English, mind you) in comparions with the SCD version.

It's a shame that I've got two left hands. (Thats an expression used in the Netherlands, it means that I'm about as technical as a sea cow.)
