Trouble with Fights

Post by Tokkie »

Hi everyone, first time poster :D

I am playing the SegaCD version through the Fusion emulator, and loving the game. Unfortunately I am stuck at the fight in the main snatcher base, with the spiderbots that jump from one location to the next. This is not helped by the fact that the gun is unable to shoot in the top-left corner. Just the hits I take from that location is enough to kill me before I can finish the fight.

I am really at wits end here. I really want to finish the game. Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks!

I am assuming you're using the numeric keypad for giving the directions. Change it to somewhere else on your keyboard (AWSD) and use CTRL to draw your blaster and Spacebar to fire. Worked fine for me. Then you can use a number of different strategies - As the appearance of the insectors is randomized, one might work better than another, depending on the playthrough.

- Fire all the time as fast as you can, hammering on the spacebar, and just input the directions.
- Fire only a single shot at each target.
- Use a combination of both tactics, usually firing one shot will work better in the beginning, but it seemed to be better to use "rapid fire" once the screen gets too crowded.

In any case, if you miss one of the insectors, don't return firing on it, instead, write it off and concentrate on the remaining ones. Usually, wasting time to pick off one straggler only puts you in a situation where more than one insector will hurt you afterwards.
As you're playing on an emulator, maybe there is a chance to slow the speed down and / or make saves during the shootout, like when you managed to kill a number of insecors without taking damage for a while. And definitely be sure to save your game right AFTER you've defeated the insectors!
Don't be fooled, this fight IS hard and will drag on for ages, but the reward is definitely worth it.

Yes I saw I double-posted but couldn't delete the duplicate. Thanks.

Unfortunately the problem persists. I re-assigned the keys, but then suddenly I can't fire in a new corner. I'm trying to track down a friend with a gamepad now, hopefully that will solve the problem.

Sometimes I put my moderator abilities to good use lol! (usually forget I have them)

I've never used Fusion, but GENS has always worked fine for me with both the Keyboard and Gamepad.
(Logitech Dual-Analog -I have a very old PS2 style model).

I have a saved game I believe for GENS "Snatcher" that is right past the final shooting sequences if you still have an issue once getting GENS?

I wouldn't spoil this experience to him, besides, we all pulled ourselves through this part eventually, and
Spoiler:
cried after taking no risks anymore and shooting Jamie, thus having to re-do everything once more again

Good point man!

It is a VERY intensive round of shooting sequences that definately pays off!
All that talk about "practice" during the game is NO JOKE when it comes to the final test of your shooting!

Might be an urban legend, but i think i even remember that the game applies the shooting sequences to your skill, i. e., it gets harder the better you are.

Nevertheless, i think that this part with the insectors is by far the most difficult section of the game. Playing on the Sega CD back then, it was made even more annoying by the fact that the last possible save you could make came BEFORE a long-ish conversation between Gillian and Metal.
Anyways, hardest part of the game, imho, actually
Spoiler:
the following fight with the Snatchers was a piece of cake in comparison and Jamie didn't put up too much of a fight either

Sorry for disappearing. Real-life has kept me away from gaming for the last few weeks, but this week I will give that scene another bash. Thanks for all the comments.

I understand this part is supposed to be difficult, but with the existence of those "dead squares" it makes it mathematically impossible for me to come out of it alive. It is truly frustrating.

I might eventually run it on another emulator. Would I still be able to load my saved games from the previous emulator?
