Thats another underlying motive of mine. If we could gather enough momentum, we could build up some interest in Snatcher, and possibly Policenauts, but we should fly under Konami's radar untill after its finished, so they don't shoot us down with extreme prejudice.

My plan was to finish the PC version before moving on to port it to other platforms like Mac, Linux, Android, iPhone, et cetera.

The only thing keeping from an official product being produced is Konami's strange marketing department. They think that if a game doesn't sell 17 years ago, on a dying platform and with limited copies exported from Japan, then it won't sell today. :? (There is something wrong with that.) With Kojima's involvement alone it would sell at least 1,000 copies.

^^^DISREGARD THE LAST PARAGRAPH, I WAS BEING AN IDIOT.

Truth be told, Snatcher can't sell much. Just look at the activity in these forums, or how many watch Sdatcher. As a franchise your best bet for the west is another IP, why bother with an established one that doesn't have that much interest? It is tru we are very loyal fans, it is just there aren't many of us.

Regarding a project like that gathering attention for a possible official release, it works the opposite way. You either demonstrate that there is not enough interest that even "for free" you ain't getting that much attention, or you kill a possible official release by doing so.

You're right, Atremio. I really should have put some more thought into it.

Yeah, doing this remake project shouldn't be about making people pay attention to Snatcher. This is something for us, the fans, to make it easier to play and explore the world of Snatcher. If people were to start paying attention? Well good for them. :P

Its just on of the many different reasons I have for working on this project. I don't care about people paying attention. (I'm embarrassed I ever wrote that.) I just want to make it available for people that are missing out. I have many more reasons for doing this to, so I'm not giving up. Sometimes we need to take our own initiative if we truly want something.

So any word on this guys? Is it a go or has it been forgotten?

If you decide to seriously go ahead with this project I offer my help in any way I can...
I'm sure you'll be needing the work I'm doing on the "Script" lolz!

I've still got it in my head.

Actually, I brought it up on the Snake Soup in a discussion with forum member TheParoxysm.
He and Nitroid (an Admin over at KPN) are working on ports of Metal Gear 2 and Snatcher CD-ROMantic. (Edit: Those fell apart.)

Don't worry Ash, I'm just a slow worker. We have time.
Plus I'm busy with other personal projects.

That's cool...I know how it is to be busy lol!
I just thought I remembered you saying it would start production in the Summer, so I was just wondering.
I should have the "Script" work done soon... \:D/

I'm still interested in writing the code for this. It's just that I'm to busy with school at the moment. When Summer rolls around I will have time.

If anyone is still interested, I've stared working on the first draft of the Development Outline/Game Plan in the back of my Math notebook before I 'transfar' it into a MS Word document for finalization.

Ash, that script will come in really handy for this project. I hope all goes well.

If anyone has anything to say, speak up!

Actually I'm not releasing it...I mean where's the fun in that? A release...BAH! :-&
I think I'd have more fun waiting around for someone else to do the work...just so I could see how long it takes them to do it lol!

I can't wait to see what you've got planned for this!

Well, let me re-phrase that: "Your script could come in handy."

Edit: Why don't embedded videos work anymore?
Edit 2: I fixed the video.

only the video ID goes in there. Mouse over the "youtube" button, it shows the ID is the part after the v=

EDIT: I deleted the example video. If you want to see it look at the post prior to mine.

LOLZ! That was a great video reply!
I'm out of classes for summer break starting next week!
So I should have the work ready for release by June if all goes well...

Egoraptor goes good with everything. Have you seen the Sequelitis episode where that came from?

Good luck with that, anyway!

Did you already send the draft to Koji for a Dutch translation or are you going to give him the finished version?

I watched the actual video right after I posted! ...so true...he makes a very good point and a great video!

Lucky I guess, but its going to be a busy summer...very busy...
Koji actually has all the work needed to be spell/grammar checked, and I also gave him the entire project to check out...so if I die before release all isn't lost lol!
I'll end up updating my work as he gets work done, otherwise it's still on schedule for a release very soon...

There's a reason I consider Super Castlevania IV the Twin Snakes of the series.
Actually, his videos have really gotten me into thinking about game design.

Cool. He hasn't posted much lately, so I assume he still has testing for now.

I believe we need to present something concrete before the project really takes off. After all, having something to show for a project will gather more interest than just plans.

That game plan will take me a while to finish, too.
I get out of School in about 18 days, so I'll have a lot more time to work in the future.

If you die, you could always leave the assets of your project to Junker HQ in the will.

Hi again everyone.
So here's something to whet some appetites - the ANDROID BUILD!
https://rapidshare.com/files/2380268014 ... elease.apk

It's just a proof of concept again, but it still makes me feel pretty darn warm inside to have Mika talking to me in the palm of my hand...err, that sounded dirty. You know what I mean.

The android version of the engine doesn't yet support videos so the intro animation isn't there yet.

I still don't see myself having the time for this unfortunately, but I do want to try and find the time to implement the action scenes, face recognition thingy, add in some more complex audio, etc. So at least there'd be a 100% functional engine that has all the technical aspects of snatcher proven working. It's actually not much work, I'd just need a week or two's worth of free evenings...

If this wasn't obviously illegal, this would be a perfect kickstarter project. Something like this should EASILY gather enough interest to pull in the dough to make it happen. I mean even 10k would be far more than is required.
Copyright law...what a damn shame...

Eh, it's not like we're planning on making any money from it, unlike Project Melancholia.
Konami seems to be very carefree about fan projects, granted, that's not an excuse to ignore the legality of such a project.
And then there's allways the possibility of... well, you know... But I doubt that will happen.

I guess the thing is, if I got thousands of dollars for something like this on Kickstarter, and then Konami slapped it down, I'd feel like a total scammer.
But it's even pretty likely Kickstarter themselves wouldn't approve such a project.

Things like project melancholia are maybe a bit more under the radar since it's just a "patch" to the actual game. It may well be perfectly legal, even.

Ya' know, I've never actually heard of a project that re-routs money back to the copyright holder.
I think there'd still be some suspicion, though.

Nope.
Marc wrote:Technically it's illegal to translate anything for which one doesn't own the copyright. However, companies usually don't object, for the same reason the IP in question was never localized in the first place -- it probably isn't profitable.

I'm not aware of an unofficial game translation patch where the creators charged for it, though. There have been projects with "donate" buttons before, but I'm not sure if anyone has ever sold one. Will be interesting to see where this goes.

Yeah not surprised.
But even if those aren't slapped down it doesn't console me much, cause patching a rom that runs in an MSX emulator is one thing. Releasing a new game directly ripping off someone's IP, on modern platforms and phones, and making money from it (it's still income even if it comes from kickstarter)...well it seems to me a whole other level.
