Question about Snatcher MSX, please help.

Post by Kojima Hideo »

Gents,

I received Snatcher for my MSX today. :-)

I immediately tested it, but I'm already stuck...:-(
Can someone tell me what the controls are exactly? I have a complete package but the manual is mainly in Japanese, especially the part about the controls. There's a schematic for the PC-88 (controls) but not for the MSX...!

I just saw the intro and the first shot of Gillians face in the tricycle. Than I see the 'joypad' of the tricycle and a red text appears. Pushing the space key doesn't advance the game for one bit..! To be exact, if I push the space key the same Japanese text appears over and over.

I pressed all the keys but I don't advance any further. Is my version of the game defect or am I overlooking something?
I can't seem to find a faq/guide etc. online for the controls, that's why I'm asking it here.

Mods, if my questions are answered you can close and delete this thread.

Edit: Made some pics:

You have to change the disk.

When the red text appears, ther should be text reading: ディスク
This means "Disk."

Insert whatever number is named after the disk and push space.

Example: ディスク2

Remember! When saving, only use Disk 1!
Any other disks will be destroyed if saved to!

A blank floppy might also work too.
I'll test it in an MSX emulator when I get home.

Edit: The red text from the first picture means "Scenario Disk 2" folloed by white text telling you to insert the disk then push space.

Thanks man!
I already thought so, but read somewhere else on this forum that taking out the disk when you aren't supposed to, can seriously damage them.

I'm not planning to play the game in Japanese (for now) but just wanted to know that my version isn't defect etc.
I find it strange though that I already need to swap the disk, it has been only about 10 minutes so far..

Will test it out now.

PS. Jonathan, the sound is really awesome!
Edit: I really need to learn Japanese...

That's only when you don't currently have that red-prompt.

The Game's scenario data is all scattered across the 3 Disks. It's really a mess.

Then there's shit like how you can only call Napoleon for the first time from the Second (or first, whatever disk Gillian's Apt. is on) Disk.
The Game gives no Indication that you have to do that!
I actually got stuck in this version for a while before I figured it out.

We both do. :)
I mean, I understand some phrases and grammar, but not very much.
