Apologies if this has been done before. The new fan-assembled soundtrack has four previously unused tracks. What exactly could they have been used for?

Also, the PC-Engine version did their own version of "For Harry", the song that plays when Harry dies, but ended up not using it. I like that song better, than what was used in the PCE veresion.

Okay, but what about the unused PC-88 tracks? Could they have been early versions of the "Katherine's Theme" track? Is one of them an unused version of the "Act Theme"?

I'mma be perfectly honest... I'm a bit of a procrastinator. To the point where most of these tracks have been on my computer for a year and I never actually listened to them. Now that I have... they sound really cool is all I can say. I'll give my opinion of each piece but seeing as they're unused they could be early versions of songs or they could be just plain unused in general, to coincide with scenes that never got finished.

TRACK 1: Its got an investigate-esque sound to it, so it could be alot of songs. certain instrumental noises though makes it sound like "Criminal Omen".
TRACK 2: It sounds like a sort of remix of "Theme of Snatcher" it could work as a theme for the beginning of an act.
TRACK 3: Oh I can see why this'd sound a bit like Katherine's theme. To me though it sounds more like a very similar song that proceeds it almost immediately, "Virulent Smile". Then again I say that only due to Katherine's theme having more of an intro, Virulent Smile and this track really don't.
TRACK 4: :O
:I
Why did I type all of that before listening to this track? Probably to sound like a smart-ass. Anyway, 3 is Virulent Smile, its almost identical, and 4 is definitely Katherine's Theme (early version).

One of the early Snatcher albums featured a sketch of the original planned ending, in which Randam was supposed to live. Here it is.

Pay close attention to the sheet music. What could it have been used for? Anyone know the notes?

I can't really READ sheet music that well, so man, I dunno. This original ending is actually very interesting because its the ending used in SD Snatcher. as for the album notes translation I think that's somewhere on the main site. I'll go dig it up.

EDIT!
"Radio Play" Notes
SCC Memorial Joint Disk Notes
Zoom Tracks Notes

The notes don't seem to explain that art though, infact in that picture is a mascot character making weird engrishy references and mentioning commercials Kukeiha Club did music for.

As I understand, it wasn't just time constraints as the reason the game had to be truncated. Apparently, there wasn't enough space for both the PC-88 and MSX2 versions to feature Act 3.

I've really been away from the forums for too long. For some reason it never occurred to me that someone would actually repost my gamerips on ffshrine.

Also, "For Harry" was used in the PC-Engine version in Act 3. It plays for about half a minute when Jamie talks about Professor Madnar's death.

Track 4 was reused in SD Snatcher, actually. It's on Disc 2, Track 14 "THEME OF KATHERINE #2(カトリーヌのテーマ 2 BGM)".

Anyway, wow, time really flies. I kinda let this project of mine slip off to the side and I ended up forgetting about it, sort of.
I'd like to finish it, and this thread might be a perfect reminder. Although it would be almost needlessly time consuming, I'll probably end up retreading the work I've done so far by rerecording, editing, and encoding the gamerips I've already done. To be honest, I always felt that what I did was kind of sloppy.
The good news is that I finally managed to find a rip of the Saturn version's sequenced music, so expect that in the next release.

Also, I've kept forgetting to correct the skip at the beginning of "Criminal Omen" from the PC-8801 version. I feel bad for letting it go so long like that.

Since we discussed the unused PC-88 tracks, the other unused tracks? Primarily in the Playstation version where there are ALOT MORE THAN 4 (as well as a few which are labelled as "unknown". Care to shed some light on this Girian?) one of which I recognized immediately because it's an even WORSE version of the already butchered remix of Innocent Girl. There are also a few versions of one song (Unused BGM 4 and 7) and whatever the hell 8 is O.o.

Oh, yeah. I found the unused tracks on Emuparadise one day (Link).
I can't really say much about them, because I honestly don't know much about them.
A number of them might just be garbled because Highly Experimental for foobar2K refuses to play all tracks except 2, 3, 4, and 7, alhough the Winamp version plays them just fine.

Here's the readme file that came with the package.

Code: Select all

SNATCHER HIDDEN SEQUENCE
(C)KONAMI 1996 (SLPS-00154)

* This sequence data include on gamedisc.
* Not used.

Driver : Mark Grass' Generic PSF Driver (06/05/06)
ripped by ROP.
And since I have nothing but time on my hands, here's all the trak titles.

Unused BGM 1 - Innocent Girl
Unused BGM 2 - Endless Pursuer
Unused BGM 3 - Decadence Beat (Shortened)
Unused BGM 4 - Endless Pursuer
Unused BGM 5 - Virtual Image
Unused BGM 6 - Theme of Elijah
Unused BGM 7 - Endless Pursuer
Unused BGM 8 - Virtual Image
Unused BGM 9 - Outer Heaven
Unused BGM 10 - Home Sweet Home
Unused BGM 11 - Lament for the Dead

As for the unknown tracks, well, I've since found the where two of them are used in-game.
Unknown BGM 1 is played when the player calls KIDA-sun (32-bit versions' composer/arranger/performer) on the videophone.
Unknown BGM 3 is the jingle played at the end of the videophone call when Napoleon's service mark appears after Gillian leaves Queen Hospital.
I still don't know where (or even if) #2 is used.

Also, for anyone who's curious, this is where I found the rip of the Saturn version's sequences.
