David Letterman, Conan O'Brian or Jay Leno? I'm saying Letterman - his jokes are original and his band's actually tolerable, whilst Leno's jokes are old, re-used and in a nutshell, just not funny. Anyone else? EDIT: Letterman's skits are also more original, IMHO |

These days I find myself only watching Craig Ferguson (on after Letterman) whenever I'm up that late. It's nice to see a fellow Scot on a late-night talk show. He also doesn't just read off cue cards for his opening monologue. And the Michael Caine and Sean Connery stuff! He kills me. I love Conan too, but they're on at the same time and I'm too lazy to record him. I went to a Leno taping about 6 years ago, and had a great time. His off-the-cuff stuff with the audience before the show was really funny. But the best late-night band is the Max Weinberg 7. I'd go to a Conan taping just to see them. |

I absolutely adore Conan. His show is the only one that's ever made me laugh until I cried. He always has a great energy going with his guests and it's fun when they go along with him. I hope I can get to a taping before the Tonight Show move. |

Yeah, I live in Australia where only Letterman's on free-to-air, but I used to have cable T.V, so I've seen all three. Whereabouts are you? |

Recently I've started watching Letterman regularly, enjoying it a lot, and wondering why the best British equivalent we've got is Jonathan Ross (who's only really watchable if you give a fraction of a toss about the guests). I've not yet sat down for O'Brien or Leno, purely because there's only so much talk show I can take in one day, but I'm willing to give them a go as the calibre of guests seems to be just about on par with Letterman. I'm also not sure how many more times I want to listen to that 'audition tape' gag... |

That's great, man. How was it? I hope to make it there myself before the move. |

It was amazing. The taping was a lot of fun and it went by way too fast. I got a free t-shirt! The Max Weinberg 7 are just simply terrific in person. Before the show, Brain McCann (who's in a lot of the sketches) comes out and jokes with the audience, then he introduces Conan who also talks with the audience for a few minutes. Also, the set is much smaller than it appears on television. ![]() |
