Blade Runner coming to HD-DVD and Blu-Ray in October
The October date, I presume, is only for the U.S. So, if you're like me and from Europe or another area, expect it sometime later.

Has anyone heard anything on the theatrical run for the special edition?

Maybe you'll be glad to know that on the same piece of paper that the BR special HD edition was announced, they announced a set of Kubrick movies. Unfortunately, Dr Strangelove isn't in it, since the rights are woned by a different studio.

I heard about some sort of "Ultimate" edition that was supposed to be out by now (or was it fall? I forget). It was supposed to have the Directors cut, Theatrical run, International version and a brand new remastered version with some of the workprint footage added back in for continuity.
Anyone else hear about this or am I off of my meds again?

You are right James, you are right. Waiting a couple of months is nothing now. It's been years we've been waiting. And when I say years it amounts to decades really, if you consider that we've had tons of cuts. Even though I like the Director's cut better, it would be really nice to have the theatrical one as well, some extras, a remastered HD transfer and lossless audio in 5.1 instead of the stereo one we've had all this time. The DVD reelased last year was a nice "preview" of what is to come though.

I'm personally looking forward to the new cut, to actually see what else they actually have leftover, edited out. It's a nice DVD package though, clumping all of the 'family' (different cuts of Blade Runner) together.

I'll probably pick up the DVD-edition myself as I won't be adopting either HD-format for a year or so. Personally I would've liked to see at least one of the workprint editions that were considered for the 92 director's cut release included with the set though as they seem, well... interesting (and I'm not sure as to how this new 'definitive cut' will relate to them). Also hoping for the international version of the theatrical cut - not that I believe the movie actually needs the extra violence (it's only a plot device anyhow), I'd just like to know what the scenes were originally planned to be like.
