Pick 3 Favorite Movies from Any Genre

Post by Space Cowboy »

Pick three favorite movies from any genre. I'll start with action.

Goldeneye Greatest James Bond film in my opinion. Pierce is by far my favorite actor to play 007.

Rambo: First Blood Part II I enjoy this one more then the first and third. I also enjoy it because of it partly being the inspiration to the Metal Gear Solid series.

Raiders of the Lost Ark The greatest Indiana Jones film to date. Indy in this movie was like a childhood hero to me. Going on dangerous adventures, fucking hot girls, killing Nazi's. What more could a man want?

Excellent picks.

It was hard to wittle this down to three, but here goes:

Horror genre:

The Shining - The most tense experience in film, that I have ever had. The acting is as good as it gets, the direction is as always, perfect, the writing is clear, cut and concise and the atmosphere is chilling. You can watch this movie one hundred times and never become bored of its brilliance. This not only my favourite Kubrick film I have seen so far, but also my favourite horror movie of all time.

The Thing - The greatest movie tale of paranoia I have ever come across. The make up and effects are gross, the acting is fantastic, the setting is perfect (for isolation), this is Carpenter's best directed movie and one of Ennio Morricone's best soundtracks. The writing is incredibly diverse; setting up each scene superbly and driving the narrative forward at a rapid pace, never letting up. This one is close behind The Shining as my favourite Horror movie. It's definitely the best movie remake I've ever seen with one of the darkest movie endings of al ltime (which The Fly also comes into).

Alien - Tense terror, our greatest fears realised and paranoia collide in this masterful movie from Ridley Scott. This is my favourite Ridley effort (yes, even including Blade Runner). The writing is impeccable. Climax after climax. This film hasn't aged one bit since the 1970s. Ridley's films are like that though; timeless. I pray for the day that Ridley Scott makes another science-fiction/fantasy movie, whether it be cyberpunk, horror, thriller, action or whatever. It's easily his greatest strength.

I'd also like to give a nod to The Fly, A Clockwork Orange, Hardware, The Exorcist, Halloween and Aliens.

I must see this.

Ghost In The Shell - Oshii injects Shirow's viceral cyber-punk with theories of life that I love to chew on.

Lethal Weapon - I believed in people there for a second...

Dawn of The Dead - I can't count how many times I watched this movie. Classic greazy late-70s gory intellegent charming suffocating allegory....

I haven't watched alot of movies in my lifetime. I hardly ever when I was a kid, 'cuz I hated them. Blame that on shit like Theodore Rex.

Sci-Fi: 2001: A Space Odyssey. Probably the best movie of its kind EVER! There's so much in it. I swear this film has to be so complex with so many messages that I don't think ANYONE has still found out what it means as a whole. The message about evolution and alien intelligence is just the beginning.

Foreign: Seven Samurai. Incredible characters, stunning action, energetic humor and deep philosophy seamlessly combined. Akira Kurosawa really was the best directer Japan has ever seen!

Comedy: Dr. Strangelove. "You can't fight in here, this is the war room!" Need I say more?
"Don't worry I got an idea. An Idea so smart my head would explode if I even began to know what I was taking about."-Peter Griffin

"Casino Royale": Best Bond movie/actor/Bond girl so far (I.. less-than-three Vesper).

"Ing...": Saddest movie I've ever seen in my life.

"Running Scared": Best "in-your-face" balls out action film so far.

I'll choose science fiction:

i.) Blade Runner
ii.) Terminator 2: Judgment Day
iii.) Aliens

Simple choices really. Also self-explanatory, they need no introduction.

I liked Casino Royale too but Daniel Craig is nothing compared to Pierce. The chick that played Vesper was fuckin' slammin' hot, though. I'll give you that.
