maybe Artemio and the Junker HQ guys can help this person translate the 3DO version, making yet another version playable for the english speaking world. Then they, along with maybe another team, can translate the Saturn version? and then the PC-98 version will be done?
Afterward maybe we can work with the Melancholia team to retranslate the MSX version of Snatcher, and/or maybe translate the PC-88 version in general? Come on this was only a year ago, ask Nikk3DO for notes or something at least! D:

That's just completism, which is not a good motivator. Systematically going through projects like that would be murder on a person. I'd rather be working on one big project that will give a greater sense of accomplishment, such as the first time translation of Policenauts or translation of vastly different version of Snatcher (PC-88/PS1). I'm not saying that it shouldn't be done, but having different people do it is best.

What I'm saying is just that someone else should do it. Obviously they could share resources like the translated script, but I doubt people would be willing to do it all over for less. If anything, bigger projects should go first and completist projects like 3DO/Saturn, retranslation of MSX2 Snatcher, should be done afterwards because there's not as much benefit.

Let's say I translated the PS1 version of Snatcher. Am I going to do all that work over again to compliment that work on the Sega Saturn -- a version that's more or less THE EXACT SAME THING but inferior on nearly every level and is a technical mess to work with? No. There's no motivation for me to do it again, at least not for such minor differences. Now if someone else wanted to translate the Saturn version, I wouldn't stop them -- if anything, I'd support them 100%, but that's their project.

Those videos where posted October of last year.
The fact that he hasn't said anything about it since probably means he wasn't serious about doing the entire game.

Sorry if this sounds pessimistic, but aside from the 3DO version having a faster frame rate in the animated cut scenes is there really any other definitive reason to translate the 3DO version? From what I heard everything else about the 3DO version is a down step from the PSone version.

I look at is as a Tech-Demo of sorts. It's just showing what's possible to be done and not what will be done.
As for everything else, I agree with what you said. The only difference is that a couple scenes were reanimated for the PS version using more complex CG.
I never even paid attention to the framerate differences when I played the Saturn version, so I don't really care. The video quality, however, is best on the PlayStation.

The frame rate is noticeable better on the 3DO version.

I believe the 3DO version ran at 25-30fps, while the PSone version ran at poor 15fps.
Here is an example with the opening.
(3DO)

(PSone)

Thanks for that comparison.
Admittedly, I'm not so great at detecting framerates, unless it falls around the single digits.
Also, bleh at the 3DO's dithering.

The Russian 3DOPlanet forum actually considered to translate entire Policenauts 3DO in Russian, but either they got lazy (it's okay for Russians to get lazy), or they just forgot it (which is okay for them also, teehee).

*cough*Maybe if I try to bump 'em*cough*

Besides the dithering, the 3DO version also has some weird art in it. Like Ed's expression during the driving scenes. He looks borderline psychotic.

But you get to see Hojo's lab with pink chairs! Apparently because pink is a stimulating color, intellectually. So Saito says, anyway.

Interesting! Thanks for the info.
I'd like to see some screenshots of these scenes, if anyone has one?

You get to see even more differences in the Pilot disc demo for the 3DO as well:

Wow, thanks for that comparison LiquidPolicenaut!
Spoiler:
I find it interesting that the PC-98 version shows Tony fall to his death. The PSX version makes it more ambiguous on whether he died by,
1:) Not showing him hit the floor.
2:) Stating earlier in the game that the center of the Prop was actually zero gravity. Making one speculate whether he just stopped falling after he reached the center.
But yes....Ed does in fact look rather "odd" in the 3DO version... :/
