Why of course!

I already did, and even offered help re-translating your work to spanish (neutral, not spanish from Spain).

The hispanic localization squad is plain awesome, so I doubt they'd ever need my translation skills. They can count on me if time arrives, of course.

As far as I can see, I'd provide some "mates amargos" to FacundoARG and SaturnAR, only if they weren't in some province far far away.

It really doesn't matter.

This is unbelievable as is... and in a scene plagued with hacks 'n unfinished translations, this game´s patch ONCE AGAIN proves (at least to me) to be one of the most anticipated of the year.

(my Virtua Gun agrees emphatically)

Thanks again to everyone involved!

Marc, you are awesome!
Playing your translation of Policeanuts back in 2009 is one of my personal favorite gaming experiences of all time. It literally felt like an adventure, not only playing the game, but waiting on the fence for it's release.

Thank you for helping these guys out with the Saturn version. I'm sure I'm not the only one that will say this, but it means allot to me :)

I greatly look forward to seeing this project evolve!

Here's to you, Argentina team!

Since Marc is now assisting this translation, is discussion of it allowed in the placeholder topic?

Howdy there again. We showed an alpha of the English patch on RetroMadrid 2013, a retro gaming show that took place the last weekend in Madrid. It's fully working on consoles (The one used for this demonstration was a developer console, but we already checked it in standard consoles)

How much is playable in that build that was being show cased at RetroMadrid? I know you said it was in Alpha, but how much alpha are we talking here :P
Is it just the prologue?

Well, that particular alpha had the movies pretty much fucked up. Besides that, that disc (Disc 1) was playable until the end. (We had to use an original disc to skip the videos).

Current version already fixed the MOVs, and the VOX subs are done 'til Disc 2.

Wow, the first disc was completable? Does that include all of the Saturn's extra dialogue with Marc's new translated text?
Is there still any major (known) technical hurdles to over come at this point?

As for the first question, Marc should be able to comment this further on but it seems, except the extras (We can't touch them until someone beats the game and shares the savegame), there's nothing new to see... Unless you have Tokimeki Memorial.

As for the known technical hurdles, right now the big one is editing the Introductions (Aka Telops) and other background graphics that have a special compression. Besides that, we still have to do a deep test of the game, just if there's any more hacking surprises.

Is the compression different? I made tools to convert form and to those formats in C.

Hello Artemio,

I didn't have time to continue with this part. Are you talking about .XDT files?

I was talking about the in game tellops, the background graphics, and the in movie tellops. They used some kind of RLE compression if I remember right.

Sadly in-game telops and background images are inside DATA.DPK, and those are .XDT files. You used LZO compression for those in replace of the original one, that could't be reversed to create the compression algorithm. Im seeing that the signature you chose to identify a modified image seems to be 0xFF000000.

Some telops are in movie videos, but that's already done (indeed, those use an improved RLE compression).

The original compression is the same, you can use the same techniques to extract them. If you need my source, let me know. But I believe you already have those.

Been following this thread for a while, can't wait to see this finished!

If I can be of any help then I'll happily offer myself to this project. I'll probably be of more use for translation stuff in a few months as I've not long been studying Japanese.

Keep up the great work!

Here's the last update from the Sega Saturn version.

The short version would be: 90% of the English contents have been ported to Sega Saturn, and almost all the hacks made in the PSX version have their counterparts on Saturn, all thanks to FacundoARG and SaturnAR. Keep in mind that there's some substantial changes on the guts of the coding, but they get the job done. I'll leave the tech details to them, if anyone asks.

Here's the long version:
- Texts: All the English texts have been ported to Saturn, 100%. There's some difficulties on subtitles that have a different structure in Saturn, and we also have left all the exclusive contents that are still in Japanese, which are one voiced scene and one FMV on Disc 3, several non-voiced dialogues around the game (Mostly what we started calling boob-i-alogue), and most importantly, Kikuko Inoue's full interview, which was subtitled in Japanese on PSX's Private Collection, and unsubtitled in Saturn. We've re-subtitled it, but it lacks a translation. Fortunately, we hope Marc can give us a hand on this subject.

- Graphics: As in PSX; this part was a bitch to edit. The toughest part is done, which are the telop hacking part, and now the not-so-tough parts remain. We're now in the process of locating and editing all the telops/background stuff, but it'll take its time.

And, due to the complexity of the hacking, we're doing a preliminary testing of the full game, in order to find any stuff that can hid under a emulator but can pop up in real hardware (And trust us, they are appearing). We hope we can get a full laundry list quite soon.

As always, we'll keep you informed.
