I just can't help but worry when we don't hear anything about it for a while (like the Ace Combat 3 translation)...
Maybe they're going dark so they can blow our minds later

Me and my pal were going to translate the Policenauts script to Russian, but Artemio never replied to my message, so I guess it's a refuse.

OK, there's good news and bad news.

Good news, TechNoir, if you want to do russian, we can talk about using our tools (Artemio's tools and our tools are different).

Bad news, well, I wanted to tell this later: Marc just emailed me saying that he's leaving the project because of RL and professional reasons. Good news is that he knows another translator to finish the Saturn job. We're currently starting the talks with this fellow.

I'll let Marc explain, if he wants, the reasons for his retirement.

The bad news is - I don't know almost anything about coding, but if explained well, I guess I could try. Even if I still won't do the coding, I can still do textures.

This is unfortunate though understandable. I wish the best to Marc.
Still interested in seeing how this project moves forward and I'm curious on how the new translator will handle the new lines.

You wouldn't have to. Just learn how our Tools work, they'll do the hard stuff. You would still need to make all your alphabet letters, to create the new typography (we have tools for that too).

If you want to edit game textures:
for PSX: original team used LZO compressor;
for SS: we create a new, improved, compressor based on Konami's RLE.

In both cases, what is kind of slow is to search the image data inside .XDT files, because you need to debug the game to locate it. Slowbeef describe this steps in his Let's Play Archive.

Great. We'll start working on the script translation very soon. Do you guys want me to start a new thread?

You are correct, I was one of the translators/editors on Ground Zeroes (working as an independent contractor), so I'm sure you understand my reasons.

Haha, I am nowhere near a position to even broach that subject. :)

Ok, so Konami better call ME instead of an unknown woman if they want proper Russian localization in TPP, because what I've seen in GZ... It's horror.

And that's not all:

>Huge Boss
>make contact with Reptile
>Huey makes a big damage to Huge Boss's people, and his influence made a quicker arms race at the Mom's Base
> - Use of UN?
- No words, they have a influence. But the IAEA uses NPT to sign the country.
- Though we are a country.
- Affirmative.

Jesus.

Huh. That's... interesting.

Though to be clear, Policenauts played no part in my becoming involved.

I'm really curious about this one. What was it supposed to be?

It's in Paz's Tape 1. Reptile was supposed to be Snake...

Some more gems:
1. From Peace Walker backstory:
>I am Chico. They ciphering me on a Cuban base in US.
>I'm made to fight. I am the cannon.
>Snake and his partner were running a small shop with military goods

2. From tapes:
> - All civilians, Huey included, should leave to their countries.
- Even you, you parisienne?
>Dr. Strange Lover's departure
>The chief of CIA, Goldman
>Kiefer watches all (no, seriously)

H-How is that considered acceptable to be shipped in a final product for the market? That's like some 1980s-type shitty video game translation goin' on there. Is this common for Japanese-to-Russian (or more likely Japanese-to-English-to-Russian) game translations? Jesus...

True, the Russian localizations are not very good, but THIS is one of a kind. The last legendary ass-sucking localization I've ever seen was Metal Gear 1.

Oh man. Just how bad was that one?

Also, I'm not sure just how well this bodes for The Phantom Pain considering that the Soviet troops in Afghanistan speak Russian, at least in the English version.

Supposedly in the Japanese version of Saints Row 2 they blanked the subtitles which originally said [Speaking Japanese] when a character did so. HOPEFULLY Russia does something sensible like this.
...
Or they'll fuck it up.

You know, the one with "MISION! FIND THE MISSING GREY FOX AND DESTOROY THE ULTIMATE WEAPON! METAL GEAR!"
HOPEFULLY Russia does something sensible like this.
No guarantees, man. If TPP will be translated by the same whore, the game will be so fucked up.

P.S:
>Policenauts thread

I'm the master of derailing, lmao. Let's go to the appropriate thread, shall we?

Hate to ruin your parade, but that game's probably already been translated to Russian by the same fellow. Ground Zeroes was translated in Latin American Spanish for the whole world (A change in Konami's way to do the Spanish, started around Rising) and the subtitled stuff from Phantom Pain are in Latin American as well.

End of derailing, please?
