Patch is up (v1.01 incoming)

Talk about Kojima's hard sci-fi masterpiece.

I'd probably just do that anyway so I wouldn't have to see that ugly ass Konami logo every time I booted it up :P (long live the orange and red cross)

Oh that's right. (Small Waves was a beatmania IIDX 4th Style song by my favorite artist, dj TAKA.)

So if I uploaded Policenauts (Playstation version that is, which I will be getting now) onto my PC to play on there, what could I do exactly with the game (add text underneath the Japanese subs?)

Those questions are quite premature. Seeing as how they're still hacking into the game to get the text and speech out, I doubt you'll have to worry about how to go about playing the translation until the next decade.

You could patch the game to English to play either on a computer or PlayStation, if you have the right environment.

That's sort of what I was thinking. I don't want to dismiss the effort put into this and I respect Osiris/Snatcher/all other people involved enormously for attempting to translate this masterpiece, but it's allegedly been five years since it was first announced and Policenauts in English just seems more distant by each passing day...

Edit: hmm, that's interesting. The topic title's been edited - it now says "Current project status". Perhaps they've succeeded in dumping the script? *holds breath*

I give you my word that is absolutely not the case. It's physically impossible for us to be further away from it now than when we started, even though I know it must seem that way to you guys, who aren't directly involved in it. Just trust me.

Some people in here really are impatient.

But yeah, patching it? How would I go about doing that? Sorry again.

Maybe not even that late.

I can understand how they feel. But the majority of the waiting is over at this point.

It's very simple. You just make an ISO image from your copy of the game, then open up the patch and select the location of your ISO. That's all you guys need to do.

My word, this is quite sudden. The status page hasn't been updated since 2004 and all of a sudden I'm going to have a finished translation sitting on my hard drive by year's end? Maybe even a while before that? The changing of the topic title does seem to suggest that they finished dumping the script, but why was this not announced formally? I would think such a major milestone in the project would deserve to be explicitly made aware of in the community's minds.

Just imagine the entire process and project flowing as the production of "Indiana Jones 4." ^_^ ...Except without George Lucas coming in and ruining our project...and putting in ewoks.

Since I'm a noob in this kind of things...which tool would be the best to create an ISO images from the PSX version?

Well this has gotten me happy. I actually prefer it the way they have told us, like this. Simply because likehte quotation goes, don't ask, don't get. Not only that but, I'd prefer being told closer to the time, rather than a year ago, longer wait then, knowing the date and such. So yeah, I like the way you have told us.

And thanks epitaph, much appreciated.

There's some satisfaction to be found in just dropping the bomb on the unknowing, y'know :)

As for the other versions of the game... will there be patches for them as well? My Saturn's more readily available than my PS2 (as I have to swap to get CD-Rs running), although I'd take any version at this point.

You should be fine with any reliable ISO program.

Ideally we'd like to eventually have every version translated, but it might take some time to adjust for other versions. Our goal right now is just to make the game playable in English.

Yeah, anyway to have it in english would be awesome. The people would be flocking here as well, I would just have to tell the whole world, Policenauts is in english, as I am a member of a lot of forums you see.

Our concern is we really want people to buy the actual game. Any contact asking for ISO images will be deleted. The website will have direct links to stores where one can buy the game.
