New Hideo Kojima interview on Kikizo.com

Quite an interesting one that seems to focus on Kojima's ideas about gaming in general, rather than a list of questions about his future games. The interview details the old idea he had about the game that dies with its main character, his difficulty pitching games to Konami, and his opinion on storytelling in games. It's not too long, but certainly worth a read.

"But when I said it's a difficult question to answer, I mean that when we look ten years into the future, maybe yes, I may well end up spending more time on the Metal Gear series!"

Woot! I don't care what you guys, especially Dick, have to say. I think that is a great sign and it would be awesome if he stayed. (Go ahead and give me the facepalm Dick)

I think the majority would agree that any future MetalGear games would benefit from Kojima's involvement, but I, and many others, think he'd be better off working on something else. There is no need for a follow-up to MGS4 just yet, especially since Kojima has so many ideas he's been unable to work on during the development of MGS4.

I've said this a bunch of times before, but I'll say it again; Kojima loosening his grip on Metal Gear is a good thing, letting his team create a new game will yield a fresh and different take on the universe that he created, which can only be a good thing. He'd most likely produce it anyways like he said in the interview.

Yes very true, I think that a follow up may be out of the question but there is a lot of fertile soil around the Cold War era. They could make some more prequels. That however is just kissing the marketing departments ass though, and maybe the fan population too.

I know what you've said and I see your point, and have acknowledged it. A new face in the production staff would be a fresh new thing and could not be bad because Kojima would still be there watching over the whole thing. However, all I am saying, and all I have ever been saying, is that the was MGS4 was done does not reflect the mistakes of Kojima and that if he makes a new one in his current position without changing anything or anybody, it won't have the same disappointing outcome as MGS4 did.

I haven't played MGS4 yet, but from what I've heard it was excellent. I don't know whether or not it was a dissapointment, but even if it was the game of the year, they should lay the series to rest for a while. That quote about the 10 years? Excellent! I love Metal Gear, but, as Dick said, Kojima shouldn't be bound to a single portion of the universe. He has all these ideas, and if he doesn't create anything based on these ideas, then we're the ones who are missing out. I don't think that they should continue the Metal Gear series without Kojima in the director's chair. It just wouldn't sit right with me. I'm more interested in finding out what else he's got planned.
