Re: 15 Movies that inflenced Kojima
I think this is just MGS. If it was his games in general, there's no way he'd miss out Blade Runner, let alone Akira or The Terminator.
Re: 15 Movies that inflenced Kojima
Hm, that list represents more what were the films that influenced the Metal Gear saga.
According to Playstation 2 Official Magazine UK, Hideo Kojima's Top 20 movies are:
- City Lights
- The Third Man
- Night and Fog
- 12 Angry Man
- Kanal
- Yojimbo
- The Pink Panther Series
- Fantastic Voyage
- 2001: A Space Odyssey
- Taxi Driver
- Somewhere in Time
- Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior
- Das Boot
- Blade Runner
- Bakuretsu Toshi
- Mauvais Sang
- Better Tomorrow II
- Wicked City
- Cinema Paradiso
- Nikita
Scans can be found here and here
(I got those scans from here, btw.)
EDIT: Of course, movie preferences may change with time. That list from Tsutaya is probably much more recent, since it includes Children of Men and Casino Royale. The list could also be influenced by what DVDs they have available to sell, since the Top20 has some "rare" oldies.

Re: 15 Movies that inflenced Kojima
Other films I've seen him mention as inspirations/films he likes a lot in interviews and in articles:
The Thing (both John Carpenter's version and the original)
Invasion of the Body Snatchers
Munich
The Terminator
T2
Spider-Man
Tomb Raider (yes, I know...)
E.T.
Resident Evil (again, I know...)
Citizen Kane
City of God
Dune
John Carpenter's Halloween
Mulholland Drive
Plenty more.
The guy has some good taste and some bad (but that's just from my personal opinion). He likes mostly war and action movies, has to be said.

He likes Mulholland Drive? Well, what's not to like about my favourite movie =P
But do you remember where you saw that? Did he mention anything in particular about the movie? I never "saw" him reference MD.

I wonder why there's no mention Escape from New York...

The PS2OMUK mentions Escape from New York (1st page, left column).Jack Stern wrote:I wonder why there's no mention Escape from New York...

Re: 15 Movies that inflenced Kojima
It would be interesting to know which movies influenced which games. Of course, there are a few "well duh!" ones on the list (Invasion of the body snatchers, anyone?), but still, maybe I can harass Hideo Kojima about this next time he feels the undeniable urge to visit Finland.
The proximity of a desirable thing tempts one to overindulgence. On that path lies danger. - Frank Herbert
Re: 15 Movies that inflenced Kojima
He probably just forgot to mention some of them. We can all think of a few that he should have mentioned, but he's such a movie buff that he's probably drawn from tons of different ones. It would be difficult to name all of them, so he didn't.
