MGS5 Discussion

I haven't really been keeping up with the MGS series after MGS4 but it just seemed to attract my attention. I've read a few new articles and it seems that the game will be based around Raiden. Which is predictable, save another prequel, seeing as how Kojima said Snake's story was over. I can't foresee any problems with using this character to carry on the series other than he may be a bit overused, and perhaps the ridiculousness of him being put back together at the end of MGS4. The mere fact that there is going to be an MGS5 is a complete debacle, seeing as how the series was originally supposed to end and the differently scripted MGS2. Now I have had mixed opinions on this site but after long rethinking and reanalyzing of the series and what it has meant to me I see now that MGS3 and MGS4 were appeases by Kojima to the marketing demands of both Konami and his fans around the world. Saying, "Hey, since that sold so well, we better change the entire story to make the next one almost exactly like that, change the characters and try not to break the players hearts to maximize profit". Keeping that in mind when looking ahead to MGS5, I think that Kojima and everyone else involved may not be making the right choices but I am unsure how to predict the quality of the outcome. What do you guys think?

Are you speaking in hypothetical terms or is there some proof that MGS5 will exist that I'm unaware of?

Whichever the case, I hope there's no more canon Metal Gear games.

There has been confirmed proof from the mouth of Kojima himself since E3.

Too bad then :(
Thanks for the info tho, I was unaware since I don't follow game news that much.

Well, they haven't officially announced "Metal Gear Solid 5", but Kojima has talked uncharacteristically candidly about ideas floating about for a sequel to MGS4. He's also been teasing fans with ideas of Raiden being the protagonist in the next MetalGear game. I doubt we'll see much of it until next year, at the earliest, though.

Bah! He can't stop making MGS games, and he won't. The only question is will he fuck this one up too?

Whenever he's talked about more Metal Gear games, he's mentioned that he won't be directing it, or that he'd want to give it to another development team.

Precisely ahah. But he ends up doing the opposite =P

I'm okay with his directing it and having the same team working on it. But as log as he does it himself and doesn't let the fans or the marketers dictate what will happen in the game.

I really can't envision any other way of milking this story any more than he already has, but at the same time I'm sure he'll figure out a way to do so. Whether he makes a new story, or keeps adding on and retconning this one he'll surely outrage half the fans and make the other half believe it's the best of the series. I don't want anymore, kojima needs to just let this poor franchise rest, even if it's just for a handful of years.

Until I hear anything official, rather than random thoughts kojima spurts out or bullshit rumors from these horrible gaming sites, I wouldn't hold my breath.

Yeah, as many ways as I think it through it just seems that they have used up the entire plot, tied up all the loose ends. So it seems like another MGS game wouldn't be possible or at least require them making up a new story and causing more loose ends for sequels to make use of. In that case however, they might as well start a new title, with a whole new story and characters anyway.

I got this info from GameInformer Magazine, saying that MGS5 was going to have Raiden star in it. I trust them, even though they are blatantly biased, towards Xbox no less, but biased nonetheless.

just because it's on paper doesn't mean it's anymore valid than it would be otherwise. I'll believe it when I see official proof, and not some "we have a secret op inside konami, and he let us know there are gonna be 5 more metal gear titles, all for the wii!" bs that gets strewn across the internet and regarded as gospel only by the people that truly want to believe it.

I don't give a fuck if they make it or not. I'm not saying it because I want it to be true.
GameInformer Magazine, May Issue, Page 25 wrote:At GDC, both Metal Gear's Hideo Kojima and Ico's Funito Ueda talked briefly about their next projects. Kojima's next Metal Gear project appears to show a figure of Raiden, which makes sense given that Kojima has said that the tale of Solid Snake is over... (Goes on to talk about Ueda's project.)
I'm saying it because a monthly gaming publication I happen to trust said it with such certainty. They got the info from Kojima at GDC. From the creator, at an official gaming convention. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'd say that's about as official as it gets.

I wasn't trying to say that you want it to be made or anything like that or trying to deny that MGS5 is being made or that raiden will be the main character, but rather you can't take everything you read as complete fact, even people you trust may outright lie, or get something mixed up.

Also looks like they just updated the site for koji's new ip:
http://www.konami.jp/kojima_pro/next/

looks like a 5, but it could be an S (god I hope it's and S). Most likely a 5, because it looks like the font they used on some of the mgs4 stuff.
