Nah, I'm thinking that since we have Solid Snake already named as 'Dave', that the masked guy is going to be called 'Tony' or maybe 'Gatse'. :D

I know I'm jumping to conclusions here, but I saw this render advertising MGO today, and the man to Snake's left immediately reminded me of Shinkawa version of Master Miller from MetalGear 2.

I know that Miller was portrayed as blonde in the MGS artwork, but that was Liquid's disguise, that may have only convinced Snake, as it was on a monochromatic display.

I'm not going to add this as a reference until everything's certain, but I thought it might spark some debate or at least interest some people. I'm quite fond of the idea of characters from all over the series being remodelled for MGO.

I doubt that people agree, but I'd like to think that this might be evidence that we'll be able to play as MG2 characters in MGO.

I don't know. The guy in the image hasn't quite got the same widow's peak that Miller has in the Subsitence image.

"Burst transmission" is a real-world term, so I doubt it was a Policenauts reference.

Yeah, I would say it's more a case of using the term in both games. In Policenauts, a burst line is a communications line that uses burst transmission, and in MGS burst transmission is used by some characters for their Codec calls.

Considering the latest MGO screenshots released, it's only one of the three basic character models. Nothing to do with Master Miller.

MGS2:

When the "Colonel" goes nuts, he mentions a lot about the Outer Heaven, Shadow Moses and Zanzibar Land incidents via codec. (MG1, MG2 and MGS1 references).

The Colonel also goes on to mention that he is in really bad shape financially, he has to "pay money to his ex-wife as part of their divorce settlement as well as other bills". According to the description at Wikipedia, the character Salvatore Toscanini from Policenauts has to do the exact same thing, could this perhaps be a reference to Policenauts?

He also goes on to mention "Communicator Entertainment Program Idea Spy 2.5 Episode 1 - New York. Here in a city where dreams come true and desires rule, something is being bought, sold and thrown away, even as we speak. But behind the scenes as usual, the nefarious J.E (Junker Expensive) Corporation lines its already bloated coffers with profits from worthless products as J.E swindles yet another innocent bystander into purchasing high priced junk...the FBI mobilizes another top-secret task force to put a stop to the menace. Now, the city's best-kept secret spy is out there, briefed and ready to protect the people from J.E., the catalogue of conspiracy, just call him 2.5 (Snatcher reference? For the use of Junker Corporation?)

I won't include that one, as it's part of the same canon series. When games in the same canon reference each other, it is generally to develop the plot, rather than honour or parody other games. It's debatable what this quote is intended to do, so I won't include it.

I'm not entirely sure if the second is a Policenauts reference, either.

The last quote is actually a Ghost Babel reference (which in turn, includes a Snatcher reference). IdeaSpy 2.5 was a radio show on a hidden CODEC number in Ghost Babel, and MGS2 borrows the script from the first episode when the AI Colonel goes nuts. I can include that.

Ah, cool, thanks.
I Never knew about that secret codec number in Ghost Babel, what's the frequency for it and when does it become active (as some frequencies in each MG game only become active after you've had an introduction to the character or alter-ego)?

140.07.
After clearing the game once (actually, you should see it written in red in the credits).
You must call the frequency each time you enter a new area to follow the radio program.

You can find it only in the PAL and JPN versions of the game.

These are loose connections, but what about in MGS1 where you follow Meryl's footprints to get through the mined area? That reminds me of when you have to follow Gibson's footprints in SD Snatcher to make it through the mines in the warehouse.

Then in Policenauts, there's a dumpster with the f word written on it in the alley by Jonathan's office, and in Snatcher (Japanese version) there's the f word written on the wall in the abandoned factory.

Also, in Z.O.E. 2, you must follow Ken Marinaris's "orders" to get through the minefield.

1) I don't know if it really counts seeing as you've already got MG MkII there but; Harry refers to MkII's design being based of that of the "Metal Gear menace of the late 20th century". This refers directly to the events of MG1 and 2 rather than just the eponymous bipedal tank.

2) Also Victor Jurgen's glasses are the as same ones as Dr. Madnar supposedly wore in MG1

Image

http://www.planetps2.com/metalgear/i/Se ... pettro.jpg

3) And in Snatcher there is a woman with a pet penguin in Oleen hospital, perhaps a reference to Penguin Adventure.

I found out when Kojima mentioned Jonathan and Ed would be in MGS4. It was Hidechan 133, which was last March. The music even changes to Old LA 2040 when they're talking about it.

Probably an obvious one, but who else thinks that Dalton from MGA2 was inspired by Gillian Seed?

I thought of another, today.
Does anyone think the mass-marketed MG RAYs at the end of MGS2 might be a reference to all the lined-up Snatchers in Act 3? It might just be a generic enough visual concept to have used twice without thinking about it.

It's a generic concept. According to the Document of MGS2, the Mass-produced RAYs were intended to be white (snow camouflage) : in Z.O.E.2, you encounter white-colored mass-produced "clones" of the Orbital Frame Nephtis.

By the way, I wonder if it's a reference to the EVA series (mass-produced, unmanned, white "giant robots") from The End of Evangelion.
