Hideo Kojima's Wii project cancelled and ported to PS3?

Post by 87th »

Very much pinch-of-salt stuff, here (especially since it's treated as a rumor from the source), but I thought it was worth mentioning, anyway.
This time we bring you a rumor which we hope will never become truth. It seems that Hideo Kojima's Project has been temporarily cancelled, and probably ported to PS3. Control innovations would still remain in that platform. According to our sources, it would perfectly adapt to the PS3 controller and its new functions, that's why Sony is trying to pay for the exclusivity. So right now, this project is in the air.
Really, I wouldn't get too excited about it. It's probably untrue. The Wii's cheap and has Project S, still, so there's still plenty of reason to get one.

They would probably need to amp up the graphics a lot if they changed it to be played on the PS3, so I don't believe they're doing that.

What was he even working on? Some got the idea that it was a Snatcher/Policenauts remake. Reckon it'd suit the PS3 well? PS3's bound to have a light gun sometime..

Let's hope the Wii doesn't bomb on third-party support like the GameCube. I know a lot of people are hyped for the system, but honestly, it seems a bit lacking in comparison to what the PS3 and 360 will have to offer.

I think what you said is very true. Though they ARE hyping up the Wii a lot (one magazine said they'd played both Wii and PS3 and found Wii better), I don't really have high hopes. All their consoles horizontally stomped on bottoms, but GameCube was just really disappointing...

Nintendo should learn from their mistakes; kid friendly consoles don't get the hits. The Gamecube was about as kid-friendly as you could get, console-wise. Look at all the shitty children's anime games they made (Yu-Gi-Oh!, Pok'emon, BeyBlade)

Project S is a completely different project. It's a collaborative effort with killer7's Goichi Suda. Many believe this is a continuation of Snatcher.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_%27S%27

I think that there is a little bit of substance behind this rumor, after all the pre-E3 Kojipro promotional website hinted strongly at a Wii game being revealed. Kojima has said he only found out about the PS3's tilt sensitivity controller at Sony Press Conference. He has also said that ideally, he'd have a PS3 with Wii controls. He may have decided that he could make the game for the PS3 and decided not to show the original Wii trailer.

Hopefully that's what it is.

As much as I love Kojima's games, I think he should stay away from child-friendly consoles. Sure, the Wii looks great and has some pretty awesome features (the ability to download and play past Nintendo games), but I personally don't have very high hopes for it. The Wiimote actually looks a bit complicated to handle with that joystick add on bit. I don't know about you guys but I personally like my controllers... in one piece.

Plus the GameCube was an extreme flop. Seriously, that shit stank on ice and then some. It was a mistake for Kojima to put The Twin Snakes on it. It really was.

The Twin Snakes was a mistake on many levels, and a wasted effort on all parties involved with the project. But I don't blame the GameCube for the game being a flop, nor do I blame Nintendo for the GameCube being branded as a kid-friendly console. The third-party support is what always makes the difference, and Nintendo has been lacking in that area ever since the N64 bombed. If Nintendo made as great an effort as Sony and Microsoft to gather support from other developers, then they'd be okay. They could still release titles like Mario and Pikmin, but they would be balanced by their third-party games. They shouldn't have to buy up franchises like Resident Evil or include a DVD-drive in order to compete. Just don't alienate gamers and developers by not supporting online gameplay or creating peripherals and other implements that are too difficult trying to develop for.

Did you play the Gamecube version? It doesn't have all the extras, but overall it's far better than the PS2 version.

How?

The PS2 version has a lot of extras, has better graphics, and more diverse controls.

Pardon me, if I'm pulling a "ratperson" by asking, but I just don't see how the version with lesser playable features can horizontally stomp on bottoms as much as the PS2 version...

It does. So if your top priority is the sanctity of the original game, then the GC version is better.

Let's just put it this way - I can't play RE4 on PS2 at all. The game is worth buying a Cube for.

The controls on the PS2 were pretty much the same as any Resident Evil, and the Gamecube's controls weren't much different. I have both versions, (I'm a big fan) and usually play the PS2 version, but everytime I play the GameCube version the graphics amaze me. Really, the GameCube version of RE4 probably has the best graphics seen on its generation of consoles (something better might exist on the XBox, but I haven't played it).
