What is your favorite MGS to collect items from
My vote goes for MGS3. All the RAH figures, Kubricks, games, everything is camoflauge, AND the fact that it's Big Boss and not Solid Snake. It's not even close for me.

Well i'd prefer to get more MGS2 stuff, but that stems off MGS2 being my favourite Metal Gear

It was a great game. One of my Top 5 favorite moments in Metal Gear history is Snake jumping off the bridge. Simply amazing.

I think it was my 19th playthrough I finished a couple of days ago. Something crazy like that.
I cant seem to find much in the way of items for it - But if I had the money at the moment then I'd grab a hold of the MGS3 Shareholders Version as its currently avalible preowned on Play-Asia [But £35/$70 is too steep for another version of my least favourite Metal Gear. Especially Preowned]

Hmmm, I think open ones go quite cheap on Yahoo Japan. If you want to use a low cost bidding service, you could probably get one for I'd say $50US after all is said and done.
About $20US for the game, $15US in bid/service fees and $15 for shipping.
19 playthroughs, that's crazy! The only game I know I've played 19 times+ is Chrono Trigger, and that number, whatever it is, will only rise after it's released on DS.

How many of the Shareholder Editions were made then if there somewhat readily avalible?
Hah; Yes. Well it goes like this - Get SOL in 2004, Play it a lot. Then get Substance and play it a lot. Thennn get the Japanese version - And repeat.
It deserves it though; Its an awesome 3.5 hour experience [Playing not many cutscenewatching wise]

Re: What is your favorite MGS to collect items from
The actual print number is unknown to me for MGS2 or MGS3, however I'm leaning towards the number 5000. The Gold Premium Package is limited to 5000, ad the Portable Ops Premium Plus Pack is limited to 5000 as well, so I'd say it's good educated guess to go along with that.
There's some cut scenes I just can't skip either. Especially in MGS4. I can skip the whole ending no problem as well as all the beauty and the beast scenes but everything else I can't get enough of. The scene at the end of act 3 (I won't get into details to avoid spoilers) is my second favorite scene all time next to the MGS3 torture scene.

Ahh - Well 5000 isnt that bad then I guess.
Such things in MGS4 like Emma's death and Soldius' death I always watch because I love those scenes. Though I do wish they made the final part of Solidus' death look better after the 9/11 cuts.
The Act 3 ending is long so ive only watched it twice. Once in the English version and Once in the Japanese version. The drebin talks about the BATB defo get skipped though.

Ah my God, I read "Emma's Death" and "MGS4" and thought, oh crap and stopped reading! I forgot about Emma dying in MGS2. Yes I have played MGS2 and no mate you haven't spoiled anything for me. I wholeheartedly apologise! Sorry man. It's times like these when you wish you could edit and delete posts! lol.
I didn't pay any attention to the line in your reply because I still thought it was a spoiler! But now I've read it I can see what happened.
In reply, yes, the scenes you mentioned were phenomenal and just makes me wanna play it as soon as possible now!
Sorry again mate

I prefer trying to collect items from the MSX games, as the goal of getting a complete collection of MG1 or MG2SS merchandise seems a lot more viable than trying to collect all the MGS merchandise.

That's a hard task surely! I've never seen merchandise for those games except the games themselves which won't really be classed as merchandise and a 20th ann. poster.87th wrote:I prefer trying to collect items from the MSX games, as the goal of getting a complete collection of MG1 or MG2SS merchandise seems a lot more viable than trying to collect all the MGS merchandise.
I don't think I'd ever be able to collect every Metal Gear related collectible, I don't think that's the aim, I just want to be able to colelct things that I know I'll love. For example, I'm not really into Kubricks, I'm not all that fussed on having the MGS3 dolls and I wouldn't buy the MGS4 PS3 just because it has the words "Metal Gear Solid..." on there. I also refuse to buy any clothing (except if it's part of a set, like the French press kit, it's unavoidable and it's needed for completion purposes). So I can categorically say that I won't have a complete collection, anytime, ever!

Re: What is your favorite MGS to collect items from
There are a few soundtracks, books, and promo items. If you include ports, then there's a decent amount of stuff to base a collection on (that includes a lot of the MGS3: Subsistence merchandise, and the mobile phone games). There's also the near-impossible goal of getting items like the MetalGear 2 sampler ROM (which was a cart that played the game's intoduction sequence on screens in Japanese shops, I believe), and the possibly one-off MetalGear D resin model.jonthomas83 wrote:That's a hard task surely! I didn't realise there was so much stuff. I'm not really into multiple editions of games, I like a wide range of memorabilia so I'd love the books, soundtracks and models etc.
Do you have any pics or URL of the stuff you mentioned? They'd definitely be things to go on the wishlist! Especially the resin model of Metal Gear D

Kojima and Shinkawa certainly have lots of resins themselves, I know for sure they each have Rex and Ray in Resin, and I really think they have tons of other resins as well. It would be great to see a picture, I love the first Metal gears' design.

I don't know if there's a resin of TX-55, but there's definitely one of MetalGear D. The MetalGear D resin model was used in magazine ads in Japan when the MSX2 game was released, but I can't find the scans anymore. There's a photo of it appearing at the MetalGear 20th Anniversary event, though:mattbellamy wrote:It would be great to see a picture, I love the first Metal gears' design.
Photos and information about the soundtracks ("Metal Gear>>Solid Snake: Music Compilation of Hideo Kojima / Red Disc", "METAL GEAR & METAL GEAR 2: SOLID SNAKE MUSIC COLLECTION" and the "Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake" soundtrack) can be found pretty easily with a google search. I haven't seen many books about the MSX2 games, but I've seen a few about the NES one (The "Worlds of Power" novel, and an unofficial Famicom guide featuring an anime version of the game's cover), and some coverage of the games in various magazines. I've also seen promotional business cards advertising the mobile phone version of MG2:SS. I can try and find images of them if you like, but no promises I'll be able to find them.
