There are some NEW Metal Gear Books on the horizon!

Post by jonthomas83 »

Anyone who's seen my collection knows I like Metal Gear books. So needless to say, I was more than a little intrigued to find these little diamonds in amonst the amazon.co.uk listings...

The Art of Metal Gear Solid by ASHLEY WOOD!
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ashley-Woods-Me ... 02&sr=1-21

Published by Manga artists Tanoshimi apparently:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Metal-Gear-Soli ... 10&sr=1-22

I was kind of expecting the first one but it's great to see another artists take on MGS other than Shinkawa. Now Shinkawa should follow suit and release a comic! lol.

But the second link, I don't know what that is but it's intriguing, apparently it was released over a week ago, but it's still only pre-order, and I've not been able to find anything on the Tanoshimi site.

Good thing is, they are both cheap!

Yeah I know, it's horrible knowing that quality stuff exists but you can't buy it cos it's not in English! I really wish they'd bring out the Graphic Novel DVD's in English but it's not gonna happen anytime soon!

So there will be no PSP-version?

Ashleys "The Art of..." seems a bit odd. Since he jumped on after the game was released. Will it maybe feature artwork and sketches he did for the comic?

Yeah the MGS2 DGN is scheduled for release in the U.K. 26 September 2008. No doubt I'd still buy it for collection purposes. But I would really prefer them on DVD as I keep having to borrow my brothers PSP to play PO and the DGN. I'd rather have it in detail on a big ass TV screen y'know! However, micster I may just have to take your advice and see what the Jap DVD is like.

Yeah I know what you're saying with it being strange with Ashley Wood jumping aboard so late in the day, but he seems to have Konami's approval (whether it's Kojima's approval is another matter) and no doubt his comics have released a new lease of life into the MGS world. It could've carried on happily without the comics don't get me wrong, but it has opened up doors to a whole new market, that of the comic readers and collectors. I really like his art (prefer Shinkawa's though!) so I'll be very interested to see what this book is going to be like. It's not out till March next year though so we have quite a wait yet!

I have no doubt it would definitely feature a round-up of his artwork for the comics/DGN's with hopefully a bit more and maybe even a glimpse of what he's gonna do for the remainder of the series.

Oh man a Shinkawa MG comic would be insane. I've tried to find his contact info because I want to commission him to do a drawing for me but can't find anything. I've emailed Konami Japan a couple times and no response, even though I've left a VERY generous dollar figure amount I'd pay in the msg. More than what it'd cost me to get a renowned comic artist to sketch something for me let's just say that.

Actually that's a good point Gixo. I've never mentioned my site as honestly, I'm just another collector. I threw out dollar figures to show I was quite serious and not wasting their time. I also collect comics too and it's actually VERY easy to get comic illustrators, even the top ilustrators in the business to do a drawing for you. I do realise there's a big difference between what he does and just a comic dude though :)

When I'm in Japan at the end of the year I'll definately see how far I can make it past security in the Konami building heh.

Excellent Gixo, I haven't got that far in the book yet but I'll be sure to take a read at what he says in his interview.

Violent Snake, what's the chances that Shinkawa will even be there when you get there, let alone the fact that they're gonna see a MGS nutter outside the building and call in the heavies to take you away! lol.

I admire your dedication and perseverance though! Good luck I say, there's certainly no harm in trying is there!

I'd feel very privilaged to have a Shinkawa drawing personalised especially for me, oh well, keep on dreaming innit! :)

Heh, actually, I don't even know where the Konami building is. I'm sure with their world class transit system I'll be able to get there though. Actually I think I'm more excited to see Super Potato than the Konami building heh.
