I really should give it a shot.

I find new things on computer quite intimidating. I can barely keep my website going. Thank god for flickR!

vs, its actually not that hard, once you get the hang of it, its VERY VERY easy to make new pages and such!

adding information is even easier... u just need to press "EDIT"

Can someone edit my pages or vice versa?

Do I have to know html well? I mean, I know some basics but I use a drag-n-drop program to make my site.

Yeah, you can edit people's pages and people can edit yours.
Lets just say its like... a big pool of information where everyone can help each other!

You don't really need to know HTML very well, other than the few basics, there are a few special codes you use for the wiki though, but its really really easy to learn.

like... there are even buttons at the top for you to press!

+2 jon!

I was thinking of that. And when i saw liquid-raiden or what he was called selling alot of rare things on ebay i thought we need to put all those things up. I nearly did it, but i didn't have the name for the items.

Ah cool, I'm really glad you guys took it in the spirit it was intended. I really wasn't having a go or picking on anyone, I just don't want people to be afraid of it. It's a community based project and something we can all have a good go at.
TSi wrote:woo! +1 to jon!!!

I actually will be updating both on a regular basis (as you can see in the recent change logs =P), but yes, I actually spent about 2-3 hours scrapping my site together, and it WILL be coming soon.

I dont have much items, but once everything is up, I'd be able to start wiki contents again... (shouldnt take more than another day or 2).
Great news man, let me know when it's done and I'll put a link for your site on mine.

Quality idea Gixo, I never thought of that, but Johnny-Raidens stuff would be a good place to start as he comes up with some obscure stuff that people will spend shed loads on if they THINK it's worth it.

Needed a new post for this so it can be easily referenced:

Yeah +1 to what TSi said mate, basically with our wiki, people only correct if there are errors that we know of. Or we know we can make something look or sound better. I.E. when someone decides they would like to turn a list into a table for example, or a spelling mistake etc.

In general, people are not nasty enough to go on there and purposely mess content up. So feel free to go on and edit/add away, it'd be great to have you on board, and same for everyone ele who could spare a little time. I got a full time job, but it really is so simple to add a little bit here and there, if everyone does that the pages start coming together.

My best advice to someone starting off is to click the "EDIT" tab on a piece of content you would like to mirror for a new piece of content you wish to write. You'll be presented with pretty much everything that you need to create that content. You just need to change the words! It's even easier if you just want to edit existing content. You just have to click the "EDIT" tab and edit to your hearts content!

A few handy bits:

Code: Select all

==Section Break==
This code gives you the nice section breaks you see in listings, when there are 3/4+ of these, a Table of Contents is automatically generated for you at the top of the page.

Code: Select all

<gallery>
Image:SubsistencePALCover.jpg|Cover
Image:SubsistencePALBack.jpg|Back
Image:SubsistencePALManualFront.jpg|Manual (Front)
Image:SubsistencePALManualBack.jpg|Manual (Back)
Image:SubsistencePALDisc1.jpg|Subsistence Disc
Image:SubsistencePALDisc2.jpg|Persistence Disc
Image:SubsistencePALDisc3.jpg|Existence Disc
</gallery>
This code gives you a thumbnail gallery. First you need to upload your image, which needs to be below 150kb in filesize, by using the "Upload" link on the left of the page. You'll be asked to browse for the file like normal, then it will give you the filename just underneath, use this filename to populate the gallery code above. The text after the "|" character should explain the graphic.

Code: Select all

[[Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence]]
This is an example of an INTERNAL link, when clicked on, this will go to the listing for whatever is written inside the "[[" "]]" characters, even if it doesn't exist yet. In this case, it will take the user to the content written about "Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence".

Code: Select all

[http://jonathanpthomas.com/shadowmoses/ Visit Shadow Moses: Metal Gear Realm]
Shameless plug! lol. This is an example of an external link. Use the "[" and "]" characters around your external URL, ensuring you use "http://". at the end of the URL, be sure to leave a space, you can then write what you would like the link to say. In this case it is "Visit Shadow Moses: Metal Gear Realm".

Code: Select all

'''''The Virtuous Collection'''''
when you see lots of ' ' ' characters, don't be put off, it's just the wiki's way of making things bold and italic, it depends on the number around the words as to whether something is bold, italic or both.

E.g.

3 x ' = Bold
2 x ' = italic and...
3+2= 5 x ' = Both!

Remember that equal number of ''s have to go either side of the desired wording.

Hope that helps. If you need any more explanations, let me know and I'll try my best to help out.

i don't think so as of yet. i think if we are serious about it, we can come up with a target date with a target of what pages we want to have populated and aim for that.

Good idea! We need to kick start the operation again cos work/workers is/are scarce at the moment! Goals and achievements could only help!

I was pretty good at updating this, but recently my laptop's had cooling problems, and shuts down quickly, so I've only been using it for short times. I'll try doing more stuff on the Wiki soon, though.

Hi guys,

I'd like to implement a details/information block (like the one on the Metal Gear Solid page) for soundtracks. Can someone help me out as I've never done it before.

I have the inf ready and all the field names, I've tried just copying and pasting but it doesn't work. I think I need to set up a template or something.

If anyone can help me out, I'd appreciate it!

Nice one,
Jonathan

Jon, it works for me:

check - Metal Gear/Solid Snake - Music Compilation of Hideo Kojima/Red Disc
i can always make a new template if you want, just let me know what kinda categories and stuff you want.

EDIT: jon, i just made a new template, let me know what categories you want...

its under "Template:OST Infobox"

Thanks for doing that mate, it's all sorted now! It's looking good!

Just saw the Metal Gear wiki that Lady S. was talking about and it's really good. I hope that we can make ours just as good!
