Do you spend too much on Metal Gear?

Post by violentpig »

How much is too much?

Personally, I think if you what spend on collecting is greater than what you put away every month for investing/retiring plan/saving - you're spending way too much.

I've had some rough months since June, and have definately gotta cool my spending. An all too common excuse for me is "well I can just sell it and get my money back or more". Problem is, I almost never sell anything.

Do you guys monthly budget what you spend at the start of the month (exactly what I do) or do you just wait and see as time progresses (if you currently HAVE money, than you can spend money). If I end up spending more than what I budget, I'm responsible to add more income, either by working more (easiest) or selling something to compensate.

I'm just wondering. This is an expensive hobby heh.

I'm nowhere near as dedicated to the process of collecting as some others, here. I'll buy something if it really interests me, but I don't give MetalGear (or other Kojima-related) items a higher priority than any other luxuries of the same quality. I have a lot of things because I've had lots of money to splash on these types of things at various points. I don't think I've ever been in any financial trouble because of it, though.

I personally set a budget ahead of time. Basically I'd work for some time, and then the money that I have are all planned for tuition, rent and what not. Then when I have about enough for all of them for the year, I will keep the extra as "savings"

Then out of the savings, I will basically budget an amount to entertainment... and of course, because I've taken up on collecting (it is a form of entertainment), other entertainment will be cut back.

Thats why I said, if I get anything big (aka... MGS Shareholder Premium Sealed) I will be out of the game for a while.

haha, its actually quite easy! cause once I am low on money to pay for school... I KNOW I won't be buying any more, or else I can't pay for school.

Yeah I'm quite spread out as well.

I do find lately I commonly say "that's it, I'm done for now", not just Metal Gear but my other hobbies and then BAM something appears I "can't" pass up on. That leads to me working more (luckily I'm on salary + overtime in a busy field) so alot of Saturdays I spend working because of it.

i spend my wages on what is needed to pay out. then if i dont have set things i want then i will put £20 in to the local bookies.lol. play on the roulette and if i win a nice sum then i will spend it on a collectable.
last month from £20 i won £3400 over 2 hours, then i got the hell out of there and spend spend spend.
obviously not the best idea to gamble but i figure its a small amount of money from my wages that is not needed for anything so if i lose its no big deal. but if i win brilliant. i do tend to win most of the time, guess im just lucky sometimes

I live at home, and spends nearly nothing at food and stuff. I get ~1.5k$ from work every month to spend on what i want actually. But i dont really do that =D.
I guess i'm a bit like A.G. I buy what i want. I rarely buy any Japanes or American releases, since i can't play them. Some times i look at the collection and think about how much i've spent on it. But i don't dare to count ^^.
And i'm also a bit like you violent, since i never buy things for more than they are worth, i can still sell them if i need money =D

That's awesome. A friend and I were at a casino once and he was up $5200 in about 5 hours. He lost it all in about an hour and a half. Seriously. I walked out +$80 heh.

mg isn't my biggest money waster.

Concerts are.

this summer alone i saw coldplay, radiohead, and a bunch of random lower acts.

september 19th and 20th seeing beck and spoon 2 nights ina row.

Ticketmaster rapes for that service charge.

luckly i live with the parents still, work 40 hours at wal mart, all i gotta pay is my credit card bill, and my gas *pretty pricey since im gett'n 10 mpg with my old ass 62 impala* but other than that it's all fuck around money.

though i did spend about 120 on mgs this check.
Wanted list
Mgs 1 pal premium pack (unsealed but with all the stuff), first bite poster, mgs 3premium pack, mgs 2 premium pack , Mgs 3 subsistence us limted edition unsealed.

Any smashing pumpkins, beck, radiohead, arcade fire, spoon, beatles, or doors vinyls :)

Indeed I do :( I should save more money for when i'll be living alone (very soon) but I definitely suck in saving, also about clothes and other girl's needings.

Anyway I want to try my luck with some lottery game :P (some auntie won 5k euros couple weeks ago, and the jackpot of some 'lotto' game here in Italy reached 61mil euros! people is going crazy to win it...)
