for this, but.... I have never beaten the original MG. In fact, I can't get past the first level. I gave up LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG ago.

I've never beaten the original MG either. I have it on both NES (bleh) and PS2 (via Subsistence) and I'll occasionally boot it up just to see how far I can get in one sitting, but that's about it.

Metal Gear is hard so there´s no reason to feel embarssed

I don't think that it is necessarily the difficulty of the game that makes it hard to beat but the lack of direction and the sense of what you are supposed to be doing compared to the later games.

I really can't get into either MG1 or MG2. Maybe I'm too spoiled on pretty graphics and cutscenes, but then, the games aren't all that fun to play either. I know there are some nostalgia buffs around here who don't think either game should be remade, but I think a remake in the vein of Ghost Babel would vastly improve these games over the originals. Plus, it would allow Kojima to further develop the storylines and make them a bit more relevant to the current games in the series.

Heh, you're not the only one. I haven't beaten any of the MG games.

It´s took me 2-3 weeks before i completed MG1 & MG2 on Blue MSX. but i´d expect that among of time to be doubled because of the lack of quick save in the PS2 version

What are you talking about? Ghost Babel has even "worse" graphics then MG or MG2, not to mention the sounds. Ghost Babel is insanely GREAT on the Gameboy Color, but the MSX games are far superior (imo).
And, Ghost Babel isn't a remake at all.

Btw, I was playing the games 24/7 (almost), so maybe that's why I completed them so fast. And MG2 is much more plot-oriented (much straightforward) than MG, so you won't get lost that many times. Overall, it's a better game than MG, so maybe you should pick that one first. But then again, in both games, you have the Codec, which will give you many hints, and if that isn't enough, MG looks A LOT like MGS2 and MG2 like MGS.

The characters, locations and icons in menus are better in MG1+2, but the animation is far better in Ghost Babel.

Actually, I was referring to the gameplay of Ghost Babel, but as 87th said, the animations are far superior to anything in the other two games. But aside from blockier textures, I would say Ghost Babel has much more detail and more diversification in the level design. Just my opinion, though. And I never said Ghost Babel was a remake (though maybe it should've been).
