AVGN Metal Gear Review

Post by Charlie Johnson »

Yeah, what else can I say?

He reviews the Nes version and doesn't forget to mention that it's just an awful port of the MSX2 original in which Kojima had no involvement, so it's all good.

I felt he was pussyfooting around, a little. It's obvious that he really doesn't like the game, but he makes an effort to call it "a classic", to appease the fanboys. He also suggests that the MSX2 version is untouchably fantastic (which I doubt he really believes). At one part, he criticises the first gas-room as one of the most badly designed sections of the game, though it's much the same in the MSX2 game, which leads me to believe he hasn't played much of it.

I'm not a massive fan of the AVGN videos, but they're entertaining and surprisingly informative in places, so I can see why people like him. It seems that he sometimes struggles to criticise videogames with the venom that is expected of him, though. The real guy sounds like a very well-intending and generally nice guy who really loves games, so it must be difficult for him to pretend to hate so much of it.

Like most people here I just watch his reviews for entertainment value and to see what he managed to dig up.

At one thing we have to agree, the horrible 'jungle' scene really screws things up.
Not much thought had been put in that one.

Its sometimes easier to be pissed about some games than about other ones.

I think that some of his reviews aren't all that great. I do, however, believe that this one was quite good: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LkNvQYiM6bw

I think that Yahtzee is a bit more intellectual than the nerd. Though I still enjoy watching AVGN to laugh at terrible retro games.

Yathzee can be a prick sometimes in his opinion about gamers.

I honestly never really likes the Angry Video Game Nerd. I enjoy how acts the angry emotions, he is really good at it. But his jokes are way to tasteful, and the toilet humour I find off-putting. I remember watching an episode he did a pooh (is swearing cool?) on bugs bunny, I found that very taste-less.

Yeah, the toilet humor is pretty stupid, but the funny thing is that I actually like playing some of those old nintendo games which suck. And, yes, swearing is allowed on this forum.
