Dog Tag Viewer 2001 differences with US/EU, SoL/Sub versions

Post by Kyrill »

Hey guys,

I'm currently working on a database that will join all the dog tags locations and details of both MGS2 Sons of Liberty and Substance.

I saw that there is two versions of the Dog Tag Viewer :

Dog Tag Viewer 2001, which are dogs tags of the original MGS2 Sons of Liberty, this version is also included in Substance.

Dog Tag Viewer 2002, which are all new dog tags that were only included in Substance.

So when you start a new game in Substance, you can choose between the 2001 SoL version or the Substance-only 2002 version.

But as I did some research, I ran into a small problem :

According to some FAQs, there is 3 dog tags to get in Strut D, in Easy mode of the North American version of Sons of Liberty (2001), that makes a total of 45 dog tags in Plant/Easy (00 to 44).
But in the European version of Sons of Liberty, there is only 2 dog tags to get in this same Strut D, still on Easy difficulty, making a total of 44 dog tags to get in Plant/Easy (00 to 43).

I checked that with my European versions of SoL and Substance, so I'm 100% sure that there is 44 dog tags in Plant/Easy in the 2001 Dog Tag Viewer in both SoL and Substance.

Now, what I would like to be sure of is, is there really 45 dog tags (00 to 44) in the US version of SoL, and is there 44 or 45 dog tags in the US version of Substance ? (only talking about Plant/Easy in the 2001 Viewer here, of course :D )

Thanks for your help. :)

Nobody ? :(

I basically just need to know the number of dog tags in Plant/Easy of MGS2 Substance, US version.
You don't need to collect any dog tags to know the number, you just have to start a game by selecting "2001 Dog Tag Viewer" and go to Special/Dog Tag Viewer.

I can't do it because I only have the European versions of the games, that why I'm asking for some help.

Thank you. :)

Thank you Omega, that's pretty helpful. :)

Now, the only thing that I would like to know is : Is the 2001 Viewer of Substance (US) the same as the SoL (US) Viewer, or is it the PAL version for both PAL and US Substance ?
(That would be possible, knowing that the PAL version of SoL is the most recent one)

Well, I can already divide the database into :
2001 Viewer US (Sons of Liberty US)
2001 Viewer PAL (Sons of Liberty, Substance PAL)
2002 Viewer (Substance PAL/US)

(I'm not aware of differences between the US and the PAL 2002 Viewer, I hope there isn't any)
