The Countdown

Post by Marc »

I braved the creatively named Typhoon No. 23 currently attacking Japan and picked up this book today...

It comes in a sweet rough-style paper with a great smell. :D

The outside is sealed with a sticker on the back that reads:

"TOP SECRET

This contains top secret intelligence brought back from the front lines, and the following important guidlines concerning FOX's objectives.

A history and portait of the MGS series.
Pictures of MGS3 and the latest secret game and character info.
A background of the era that MGS3 takes place in.
Missions details and a review to help you decode MGS3's secrets.
On-location research photos and a conversation with Director Hideo Kojima.
Helpful information related to the mission's objectives.

There are approximately two months remaining until FOX's sure-to-be memorable inaugural mission. Please use this to prepare for that day, and look forward to perfection.

For Authorized Personnel Only

FOX"

I'm guessing FOX is the name of the covert operations body in MGS3... Damn, something else I didn't want to know.

Sorry if you want info on the contents, but I'm trying to avoid spoilers. I opened up the first page and there was the main character with his sniper rifle wearing the alligator crown, so that was enough for me. :?

BTW, it says that The Art of Metal Gear Solid 3 is due out in late March.

Edit: Okay, holy shit, I looked at the back of the book at the research photos.... This game is gonna be AMAZING!

Alright, I'm ruining stuff for myself, but here you go:

-There is 1.6 times the Codec dialogue than there was in MGS2.

-There are "many" secrets in the game.

-Shinkawa says the mission part is about 2 or 3 times the size of MGS2.

The text in the characters pages seems to be nothing more than lines spoken by the characters. Nothing that we didn't know before, although it's nice to see Shinkawa's character designs for once.

Naked Snake: "It doesn't matter what my name is, I have no significance in this battle."

Major Zero: "This is our biggest chance. Show your patriotism"

Paramedic: "I will tell you if you manage to live and return."

Eva: "A good woman has scecrets with her."

Ocelot: "An ocelot is a noble creature. Naturally, it's never in a pack."

Sigint: "I'm the weapon and equipment specialist and I'm also well specialized in the latest technology."

Sokolov: "I only made a pure space rocket, but..."

Volgin: "This is war. Well, this so-called cold war is a battle of information gathering."

Edit: More lines.

The Fear: "How is it? My poison of fear?"

The Fury: "You will burn to death with my furious flame."

The End: "Stupid rookie! Right now, you're not worthy of death."

The Sorrow: "The dead are sad... The living are even sadder.."

The Pain: "You will learn what true pain really is..."

The Boss: "We're within the times, always changing the enemies we fight."

I am posting an image in a few minutes here, great work on the translation Johnny Undaunted =)

I though theer would not be much interest in the scans... and I am starting to believe I was wrong. I did manage to scan a page from MGS3 today before leaving home at 5:45 am... and That's what I am posting here....

Although I scaled it to 60% (I think it is a good balance between readable and not having to download 2 MB), it is still 500 kb... so I just place a link here.
