Torrance, CA (November 2, 2007) – Aksys Games, a publisher of interactive entertainment software has announced Jake Hunter: Detective Chronicles, an interactive digital novel, exclusively for the Nintendo DS™ for release in the spring of 2008.
“Jake Hunter: Detective Chronicles is the latest in a growing genre of games that places its focus on fantastic storytelling and character development," said Bo deWindt, Project Lead, Aksys Games “It’s a great diversion for gamers seeking to test their powers of deduction and reasoning as opposed to their trigger fingers.”

* Experience three unique murder mysteries as Detective Jake Hunter!

Episode 1 – The Petty Murder of a Fragile Heart

On a quiet night, Jake gets a call out of the blue as a hysterical man pleads with Jake to find his missing girlfriend, Eva, in the harbor city of Depono. What seemed to be a routine missing persons case, will lead him down a dark path of deception...

Episode 3 – Crash and Burn
A story about love, betrayal and death in the fast lane. Jake Hunter’s skills will be put to the test, as he attempts to solve a murder case at the top racing circuit in Ceteri, where rivals, ex-lovers and friends are all suspects.

Hmmmm, the epic detective gameplay of Hotel Dusk, with the episodic stages of Phoenix Wright?

Oh boyo, boys! We get to have our cake and eat it too!

Seriously, this seems like a release worth looking at, so long as it's written well.

The term 'hard-boiled' means very little nowadays - it's truly a shame.

With a $19.99 price tag, I am having very mixed feelings as to what the writing will be like, as its story that makes or breaks these games.

Jake Hunter is part of the Detective Saburo Jinguji series in Japan. I'm not exactly a follower of the series, but the franchise has existed for quite some time in Japan, with four games in the series released for the Famicom and later installments were released for the PlayStation and Saturn (including a compilation of the first four Famicom game).

Jake Hunter: Detective Chronicles is a localization of the eleventh and latest game in the series, which was subtitled Memories of Antiquity in Japan It must had been a good series to last so long, so don't write it off.

Sorry for bumping...

Following feedback, Aksys have decided to "re-release" Jake Hunter: Detective Chronicles, as Jake Hunter: Memories of the Past. In addition to the three cases present in Detective Chronicles, with an improved localisation, there will also be three new cases, along with added bonus content, that was present in the Japanese version, but was cut for Detective Chronicles.

I haven't seen an official release date anywhere, but Amazon and Play Asia both have it down for release this month in North America.
