Is getting a PSP worth it?
Hello all,
This month I really have been thinking of getting myself a PSP, there are a couple of games for it which I really would like to play.
- Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops
- God of War Chains of Olympus
- Star Ocean: First Departure
And the upcoming "Resistance: Retribution" and "Star Ocean: The Second Evolution".
I actually already have the first three games, a bit strange some might think, of getting games for a console you don't own yet but I was already planning to get a PSP and I wanted to pick the games I wanted to play in advance before they become hard to find or that I have to pick up the "Greatest Hit series" version instead which boxes I really don't like.
What I find a bit of a problem with the PSP is its price to be exact, the PSP is sold for 169 Euros here which is quite some money.
The thing is that the PSP isn't exactly a machine you just sit behind the whole time like a PC or a console, it was mostly intended as something for when you are traveling, that is why I wanted to get it when it was more cheaper or available on Ebay for a small price.
Well I don't trust the idea of buying a console through Ebay any longer and Sony isn't going to lower the price in some time, that is why I would like to know the opinion of people who own it.
Please be honest.

I love mine, and often find myself using it while not "traveling."

Well, I use mine relatively often to play games with emulators, I haven't actually played a PSP game on it in some time. I'd go for a used one, however, but thats just what I would do. Also they're a lot of fun to mod, whether that be software or hardware.

I think most PSP users will use it for a short period of time. Then it'll collect dust for a few months until something else comes up that warrants its use. If you're going to use homebrew, get a used fat PSP to make sure you can mod it. The newer one's aren't hackable just yet.

I love my PSP, its very handy for boring car rides, doctor office waiting rooms, under the desk at school. Plus its a very competent portable system, I play it quite often. Yeah, definitely get one.
Re: Is getting a PSP worth it?
As many have already said, get it for the games like the ones you mentioned, but also for the homebrew. It's cool to be able to play any psx game I want anywhere I want. Then you can play any older system. Although all these emulators are good, what you should really get homebrew-wise is the Cave Story freeware port.

He's right.

Hello all,
For the moment I have decided to wait with the purchase of a PSP, I heard to much negativity so I am going to wait for the price of a new one to lower to a more acceptable level.

The late model slim 2000's aren't hackable either. The late model 2000's have the same mobo as the new 3000. So to be safe, it's better to find a used fat 1000 to be sure.robertwarnes91 wrote:Well i've got modded slim 2002, its the new 3000 that can't be modded, yet....Omega579 wrote:I think most PSP users will use it for a short period of time. So Pandora's Battery is all but useless now? Wow, that sucks.
On another note, about buying a PSP, it doesn't have that many games that demand playing. However, a modded PSP will give you access to homebrew. So, for example, if you ever feel like playing your old Lucasarts adventure games on the road, ScummVM will do the trick. Nothing beats seeing the suprised look on your technologically-impaired friends face when he sees Sam and Max Hit The Road running on your PSP.
If you want more native games, I'd get a Nintendo DS if I were you. I own both systems, but use the DS much more frequently.

Re: Is getting a PSP worth it?
I was looking at the psp 3000 online the other day, and the review kept mentioning the interlacing in the screen. Has anyone actually checked it out personally, because the review said that it wasn't actually a big problem? I had to change out my cousin's screen one time, and the screens that have interlacing, while they have less ghosting, don't seem to be as high quality. What I want to know is whether Sony might be using screens that are cheaper to produce for more prophet.
