Quick Intro

Post by Made in DNA »

Hello everyone,

I'm Made in DNA. I was invited to check out the forums by another user here, so I thought I would.

I discovered SNATCHER serveral months back my mistake on YouTube.com, so I picked up an original PS copy off of Yahoo Auctions Japan and I have been enjoying it ever since. I'm a slow player (and add to that, the fact that I am married), so I really haven't gotten that far. It's a great game though. I'm really impressed by the storyline and gritty, edgey, and sometimes humorous writing.

By trade I am a writer and translator. I have a degree in Japanese from CalState Long Beach, and have worked with and at such companies as RAIJIN COMICS, J-LIST and JAST USA to localize games, comics, manuals and the like.

If anyone needs help with translation (big or small jobs), please feel free. Or if you just would like to know what something means, I will be more than happy to give you the meaning for something in Japanese. Any way that I can be of service, I am more than happy to.

To finish, I currently reside in Japan with my wife and her family. I enjoy reading and writing fiction and comics (mostly cyberpunk, alternate universe storylines), and am currently working on producing an anthology and a PSP-native comic by the beginning of next year.

Have a great day!
Made in DNA (aka Brent)

I'm sure that the people behind the Policenauts translation would be happy to hear that.

Welcome to the forums, though. If you enjoy Snatcher, you'll have no problems fitting in here. It's great to have such a diverse userbase, too.

Hey Brent, good to see you around here, welcome to our humble boards.

It would be great if you "copy-pasted" your yahoo groups snatcher questions to the Snatcher forum here, I am sure that'd generate more discussion over here than at the groups. Most of the active people in the group is here too anyway, but I believe we check more here than there.

Have a great time =)

Hey, buddy, you want to translate something? How about Famicom Detective Club 1 and/or 3? I played 2- and got hooked! I'd love to play the other two.

Thanks.

Yeah, I'll consider it. Honestly, they weren't burning questions I had to have answered, it was just something I was interested in personally. ;)

See you around.

First let me ask you this: are you on a schedule, and do you have a text dump of it?

Damn, I knew you were going to ask that...I'm not on a schedule, nor do I have a text dump...I'm just a fan who wants to play the other Famicom Detective Club games.

Well, if you are not a schedule, that's good, because I would do it in my spare time between my writing stints. =) No text dump would be rough though. I don't relish sitting in front of a game, playing it, trying to tree and translate as I play...

I'm sure someone out there could get one. It is a Famicom game...probably wouldn't be that hard to hack for someone who's got some practice doing it. You'd need to hack into it anyway to insert the English text.

You could always try emailing the people who worked on II and ask them if they plan on working on the others.

Well, I was going to say before that you might not get one. Most hackers and translators are tired of people writing to them to ask them to translate games, even when asked politely. I know you aren't one of those people who shouts and screams in your emails telling them what they should do, but a lot of other people do that, especially the Pokemon and Dragonball crowd, who are always pestering them to work on the unreleased games for those series. I happen to know that the guy who translated it, Tomato, has a professional job with Funimation, so maybe he just doesn't have time. The hacker, Demi Force, doesn't appear to have any plans to work on it, either. Who knows, maybe the other games really suck?

You could also try going here and posting a request in the Translation Requests thread.

It looks like they are trying to translate the first game, but are running into space problems. It isn't always as easy as simplying finding and removing the text, translating it, and reinserting it, unfortunately... I'll let you know if it gets any further.

Where's this project located? Does it have its own website or is all the info available from a forum thread?

You can find the thread here: http://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.p ... 726.0.html

By the way, the third game in the series was only released for the Super Famicom Satellaview service in Japan, so I'm not sure if it's possible to play it anymore.

Yeah, I had heard that, but most, if not all Satellaview games are available in ROM form. Heck, FDC2 for Super Famicom (the one that's already translated) was only released via that Nintendo Power flashcart thingy, and they got it dumped.
