Ghost in the Shell Live Action Remake...
The rights to a Ghost in the Shell movie have been bought, not an anime one but an actual live action remake of the original movie.
Anyway, check more about it by clicking below:

Hasn't this been in some kind of pre-production for awhile though, now?

There's a film that I won't watch.

You know, The Matrix was originally supposed to be a live-action Ghost in the Shell... the first one wasn't bad, but after that it's your call.

How could this suck more, you wonder to yourselves? The Wachowskis could be attached. Go Speed Racer!
I really loved if they'd just take all the money and continue furthering the S.A.C. series.

In my opinion, and this will surely get many heads boiling here; GITS is rather overrated. Sure, it's good, but really not as good as everybody made it out to be. Akira is better.

Up until now, you were alright in my book Henry Spencer.
=)
Up until what is really in tehre, it is just being negotiated.. nothing has been set yet. Let's hope for the better. But indeed, I'd rather don't have a GITS movie.
I love the first one, the plot and atmosphere are excellent. Specially if you've read the manga and understnad the movie as a movie adaptation, with an Oshii touch. Innocence goes way beyond in that sense, and the manga and SAC have lives of their own that are really good.

I loved GITS when I first saw it, but not so much after that. I was unsure of Innocence when I first saw that, but it seems to be a grower. I've only seen the first 8 episodes or so of SAC (I don't own it, myself). Haven't read any of the manga, either.
I think it's a fantastic series, but the praise towards it usually only goes to the visuals, as few can fully grasp the plot.

And that is a shame. Since the plot is what it shines for, in all accounts. It is not difficult to understand, and it does make sense. I agree that you need certain education, but it is not that high level.

Well, I think it's more to do with patience, and how willing you are to watch it multiple times.

I think after the first movie, they did not need to make anything else. And gave in to the need for money; lusting for the green!
Not only that, but I think the story went pretty much downhill since the first movie as well.

Maybe it is because you never read the original work... the movie only used one small part of the story. innocence is based on another part of the same manga.. and SAC takes the whole thing and brings it to the level of the manga with a different storyline, but being more true to the original.
When having read the manga, it is the other way around... "the movie left out way too much".
I admit that every time they announce something from the franchise, I go "no please, don't do that... you'll end up ruining it". But so far, they've delivered. Even on the soundtrack the quality level has yet to let me down.

Well, I think you can trust someone like Yoko Kanno.

I agree with you, but the GITS series have a much better handle on the subject matter. I love the first GITS's art-direction, though.

Duo always tells me I hardly watch any anime for someone who knows Japanese. Sadly, I've never seen anything GITS-related, something I plan to change soon.

Honestly, my ADD made it nigh impossible to watch Ghost in the Shell. It was interesting and all, but it took me four or five sittings to finish.

Akio Ohtsuka does the voice of Batou in the Stand-Alone Complex series which makes him badasseder. And it has Yoko Kanno's music, come on!7

All of The Seatbelts are talented, but obviously Tsuneo Imahori and Yoko Kanno are the most talented of the lot!

After Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo and Macross Plus, I trust anything that Yoko Kanno does (and judging by the list of anime I made, I trust Shinichiro Watanabe, too!)

You should check some of Tsuneo's work as well (Gungrave, Bebop movie theme, Trigun).

Holy hell, I had no idea that is was that Tsuneo on the Gungrave OSTs. I always thought "Home" was an homage to Spike Spiegel, but discarded that thought as coincidence. Pretty bad ass. I kinda skipped on the Trigun music, but I have it here. I'll give it a listen.

Live Action? It's gonna probably end up like some piece of shit, generic Milla Jovovich picture where she fights robots and neo-nazi South African Dutchmen (and btw she hasn't been hot since the 5th element, and even there she had no fucking titties, therefore she can fucking die.)
The Ghost-In-The-Shell series as well as it's Manga is breathtaking, specially Stand Alone Complex. And the reason is detail. As we're treading deeper into an age where 70% of the anime market's detail value keeps looking shitty and affordable (but idiots still keep praising the shit) we see something like Ghost In The Shell stay on top -going the extra mile, full of color, full of atmopshere, and full of life with adorable soundtracks. (Kenji Kawai btw composed some of the greatest music in his career for GITS 1&2 in fact.)

I wouldn't worry about that. He prefers to ruin clasic video games then to ruin clasic movies. XD
