Hey don't feel too bad. So was I. I shouldn't of bashed Eraserhead so much to a fan of the film. That's just wrong.

Just those two. I keep trying to watch Blue Velvet but I just can't bring myself to finish it. Every time I try to watch it I end up turning it off after the first hour. It's a good movie, but It's not easy viewing in the slightest.

I totally agree, I dislike Velvet the most out of his films, actually. It's really sickening and gross, haven't come across much more disturbing material actually, or fiction as hard to enjoy as that...

I'd recommend you try out the Twin Peaks Tv series though, it's totally gripping and is my favourite Lynch project (as it is many of the Lynch fans). Every episode is utterly engrossing from start to finish, and it doesn't run on too long (only two Seasons). It's a grand mystery tale interwining horror, comedy, suspence, conspiracy, paranoia, weird, dreams and of course, a blend of the finest black coffee.

Watch it NOW! Regret, you shall not! (It's no weird trip like the rest of his projects, in fact, it's one of those that actually does make a lotta sense, and is well liked amongst many people I know.

I wouldn't qualify Blue Velvet as "gross". Sure, Frank is one the most disturbing characters I've ever seen in a film. But that's the point : showing that, beneath the surface of the nice, typical American town, there's a lot of horrible and violent things.
And, in that sense, Blue Velvet is basically the matrix of Twin Peaks (TV series), Lost Highway and Mulholland Dr.

The David Lynch films I disliked the most were Eraserhead (sorry Henry) and Lost Highaway, because I just couldn't often figure out what was happening.
(Well, also Twin Peaks : Fire Walk With Me, because I wasn't prepared to such a departure in mood from the series).
Spoiler:
The whole "Black/White Lodge, doppelgangers, Bob, the Little Man from Another Place, the Giant, ... That's not the most rational stuff I've watched.
But don't get mistaken : I love the series.

Well, yeah, many are disappointed with the Twin Peaks movie. Make sure you don't make the mistake of picking up the film rather than the TV series, ratperson.

I liked it though, it's insane. I like insane, obviously (since I am a fan of Eraserhead, obviously, haha).

As for Velvet, that was just down to the content shown in the film, it's really you know, quite sickening what happens during the course of the film.

Have you by chance seen Wild At Heart with Nic Cage and Laura Dern? Dafoe's never been much better in that.

Oh, OK.

Yeah, one of my favourites Lynch films. Totally over-the-top. Dafoe is great in it and, fortunately, I saw the uncensored version
Spoiler:
(the one where you can actually see him blowing his head off with the shotgun and blood and everything).
BTW, here's what I saw from Lynch :
Eraserhead
The Elephant Man
Dune
Blue Velvet
Twin Peaks (TV series)
Wild at Heart
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me
Lost Highway
The Straight Story
Mulholland Drive

Woah, you certainly are lucky to have watched the uncensored version, I haven't ya see. Yeah, I've heard it is brutal, I should go hunting for it again. Also, you've seen a lot of Lynch movies, about the same as myself actually. I just happened across 'Rabbits' the other day and was disappointed. Haha. It was so bizarre, and rather predictable to be honest...

Has anybody here seen INLAND EMPIRE yet? I (of course) really want to see that, can anybody tell me what it is like?

I saw Papillon last night. A great movie I thoroughly recommend. Perhaps my favorite era of Hollywood.

I watched Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid tonight. Another great movie. Anyone else prefer older films to newer ones? A lot of the ideas today are just recycled plots that were done better in decades past.

Another thing that comes to mind with this film is the subject of changing titles for other markets. For instance, in Japanese Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is known as Shoot for Tomorrow, which I think is pretty lame. Another Japanese title change off the top of my head is Dumb and Dumber-->Mr. Dumber (groan).

^ I watched it and was not very fond of it at all.

I watched The Mission the other night and was quite good. Good performances from De Niro and Jeremy Irons.

I noticed that movie titles are far less translated in France than before. I think that's because of that translation "trend" not to translate anything anymore (even if it requires some "extensive" vocabulary knowledge of the original language i.e. Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind) while before, translators didn't hesitate to heavily change titles with French phrases (for example, Hitchcok's).

Some examples :
She wore a yellow ribbon => La Charge héroïque (The heroical charge)
The Searchers => La Prisonnière du désert (The female prisoner from the desert)
High Noon => Le train sifflera trois fois (The train will "whistle" thrice)
The Deer Hunter => Voyage au bout de l'enfer (Journey into Hell's end)
Star Wars => La Guerre des Etoiles (The Stars War)
The Shawshank Redemption => SPOILER (sic) Les Evadés (The escaped prisoners)
First Blood => Rambo
Escape from New York => New York 1997
Big Trouble in Little China => Les aventures de Jack Burton dans les griffes du Mandarin (Jack Burton's adventures inside the Mandarin's claws)
Dawn of the Dead (original) => Zombie
Dawn of the Dead (remake) => L'armée des morts (The army of the dead)
Lock, stock and two smoking barrels => Arnaques, crimes & botanique (Swindles, crimes & Botany)
The King of Comedy => La valse des pantins (The puppets' waltz)
...

It's very interesting that a few of those French titles match the Japanese ones exactly: New York 1997 and Zombie. There might be more, but those are the ones I happen to know already.

I finally got to watch Fight Club, and I was so delightfully amazed... So glad noone told me anything about it. Painfully relevant, as well....
Next.... I wanna see... Maybe the original Dawn of The Dead again? I dunno... Then again, I've seen that about 324235325 times...
Before that was Lady in The Water... I think I was dissapointed, it really lacked the punch of most of Shallaman's films... Oh, and "Die, CG, DIE!!"

Maybe that's the "international" title for those movies...
I think Zombie was the title given to Dawn of the Dead's Dario Argento cut (The Japanese saw a censored version of it in theaters according to an Hideo Kojima at the movies article).
Wikipedia wrote:Coincidentally the Japanese word rambo (written 乱暴) literally means violent; rough; reckless. In Japan First Blood was released simply under the title Rambo.
Some more examples of French translations :
Die Hard => Piège de Cristal (Crystal Trap)
Die Hard 2 : Die Harder => 58 minutes pour vivre (58 minutes to live)
Die Hard with a vengeance => Une Journée en Enfer (A day in Hell)
Live free or die hard => Die Hard 4 : Retour en Enfer (Die Hard 4 : Back into Hell)
The Living Daylights => Tuer n'est pas jouer (Killing isn't playing ; pun on the phrase "Souffler n'est pas jouer")
Death proof => Boulevard de la Mort (Death Boulevard)
From dusk till dawn => Une nuit en enfer (A night in Hell)
Twelve Monkeys => L'armée des douze singes (The Twelve Monkeys army)
The Last Boy-scout => Le Dernier Samaritain (The Last Samaritan)

I just watched "The Departed" and I recommend this to all of you. this is one of the most powerful movies I have ever seen, and deals heavily with corruption. It's almost as deep as Kojima's works.

Pfft, I've seen it and didn't think much of it, it's rather overrated, if I may be so bold. It's definitely not Scorsese's best. And the original Infernal Affairs trilogy is much better, in my eyes.

The Warriors is ace. Plenty of action in that.

Last film I watched blew me away. It was called 'Kafka (1991)', you may notice my signature containing a line from the movie's climax. It's based upon all of Kafka's works, and puts the writer himself in the main role to solve the death of his best friend, whilst meeting plenty of suspicious types along the way, unlock a conspiracy that involves everybody he knows in one way or another and try to escape from these shocking finds and the people who are behind them.

Definitely a ride through suspense, paranoia, conspiracy, mystery and insanity. The film twists and turn in so many ways, and to think it's only just over 1 hour and a half is just criminal. Definitely one of my favourite movies now, I've already watched the film three times this week, I loved it that damn much. Can't find any faults with it, actually. 10/10 all the way.

If you like your movies with mystery and suspense, you can't do any better than this film.

Just watched Die Hard With A Vengence twenty minutes ago, to get caught up before going to see the new film next week. I'm sure it won't be very good, but there's no chance I won't go to see the first Die Hard film in around 12 years.

Hahaha. Do yourself a favour and watch Kafka. It's definitely one for those who like their movies with mystery and twists.
