Your post count is a good year for movies.

And Missing; I like both Friedkin and Don Siegel, both are class directors. I'll look up Madigan and Charley Varrick, thanks for those recommendations.

Being a big fan of the eighties and all (my favourite era of film), I've seen To Live And Die In LA, it is a spectacular movie, and definitely one of the best of the era. I'd also say that Manhunter, by Michael Mann was incredibly well made, as well. Some brilliant crime movies were made in the seventies and eighties, for sure.

Just watched Hard Target again, featuring Jean-Claude Van Damme and Lance Henriksen. It's so cheesy and laughingly bad, but enjoyable for that very reason.
Well, I watched a Fistful Of Dollars. Rather good, nowhere near Good, Bad and Ugly in my mind, though. Still alright, I'd give it a 6/10.
Also, I'd like to recommend Once Upon A Time In The West.

Duck, You Sucker may very well be Leone's best movie, but outside of Colossus of Rhodes -- which is decent -- they're all pretty damn spectacular.

If you want 'so bad in every way' that it becomes fucking awesome (like Hard Target) - from the 80s see Action Jackson.

Get 70s films The Gambler with James Caan and of course Serpico. Those films hold up. Some may not like the trail off ending of The Gambler but it still is an interesting film to view.

See The Limey and Ken Park too. They are polar opposites of one another but from what I read of the members here preference for movies they will fit in the theme of action, drama and shock factor.

Sexy Beast with Ben Kingsley is tops as well.

Ken Park is a Larry Clark film so expect alot of teen sex and real world drama issues- be forewarned (Bully is a touch better IMO, also from Clark)

Ah, Cinema...

Just saw 28 Weeks Later.

Was quite amazing, better than 28 Days Later, I believe. The acting was spot on, characters were well rounded and the action was relentless. The violence was excessive in some parts (eye gouging, hate that shit), but aside from that; no complaints. Great chase movie.

Just saw "The King of Kong: A Fist Full of Quarters". Great Doc on the old school (classic) arcade game scene and the KING ASSHOLE (Billy) of that circuit/subculture.

Must see for retro games fans. Great film! Who knew that one could come to care to root so much for some Donkey Kong player?

Mr Awesome is a douche too (as if you won't see for yourself by watching it! LOL!)

If you're a fan of Nintendo, and wish to see where Zelda came from, watch the movie 'Legend' directed by Ridley Scott. Impeccably made, and written by one of my favourite novel writers (William Hjortsberg) who had also written the novel 'Fallen Angel', my favourite novel and movie (which was renamed "Angel Heart" for the movie).

It's definitely one of the best fantasy films you'll ever see, and the three main characters from Legend are definitely very much inspiration for Zelda, Link and Ganon.

I've got two films I want to see.

The original version of The Hitcher, featuring Rutger Hauer. As much as I love Sean Bean, I'm opting for the original first. The second film is The Last King of Scotland, which has been recommended to me.

Lets rename that last recommendation to 'The Last King Of Fucking'. That's all that I saw during that film. Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, FUCKING! All over the place! Terrible film. And terribly overrated, too.

I see Angel Heart is on the list. That is an intense 80s film with Mickey Rourke. He was the hottest actor at the time he made that flick. It is violent as hell tho- especially toward women.

Still if you can manage that it is interesting enough to see.

See Dust Devil also if you like Angel Heart.

----------------

I just saw Superman Doomsday cartoon. Its the PG-13 version of the death of Superman. Its okay but not great all in all.

For Rourke fans, check out Michael Cimino's Year of the Dragon. It's a great cops vs. criminals flick (set in Chinatown) with some intense action and plenty of un-PC views of Asian-Americans, which is always a plus.

I am a fan of Mickey Rourke's. Funny how his best work (Angel Heart), he thinks nothing of. He even said himself that he wasn't even trying to act in it, just being himself. :o

I think that maybe made the film even more effective. Alan Parker's amazing direction makes the film my personal favourite. I always watch it at least two times a year, and I always notice something new, that foreshadows the events later on in the film. I love my mystery films. :)

Dust Devil is a class film, btw, Richard Stanley is a brilliant director. Hardware is one of the best horror films I've ever seen. Can't wait for Stanley's new film.

Now there's a director who doesn't get enough accolade (Stanley)!

Yeah, Year of the Dragon (get back and forth dialogue "The fish stinks from the head" "We Chinese eat the head!"), Pope of Greenwich Village, and 9 1/2 Weeks are all classics he did. (Another 9 1/2 Weeks is okay but not as good)

Barfly is great! Tho its hard to get it on DVD for less then $50 USD. I got a HQ rip of it from a tracker tho and I'm happy with that. Rourke has great range as an actor.

Even in the remake of Get Carter he was very good, I felt.

EDIT: Just bough Hardware brand new for $10 USD on Amazon. Its the Euro Cult Full Screen Uncut Version. Next lowest price was $130 USD for the same title! Must be a hell of a great film to demand that price! Can't wait till it gets here!

Also got (from dir Stuart Gordon) the unrated version of "From Beyond". That looks to be amazing too.

2ND EDIT BEFORE I FORGET IT:

If you like Year of the Dragon check out King of New York and Night of the Running Man also.

IDK why I'm thinking westerns all of a sudden but for sure see The Ballad of Cable Hogue, Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid, and Ride the High Country- all Sam Peckinpah masterpieces!

Who here likes silly 80s stuff like The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension?

Anyway... :D

The Crow

This came recommended from a good friend of mine, who lent me the film. I got round to watching it last night, and I must say, I was pleasantly surprised. It's not my kind of film, but nevertheless I was very taken in by the emotion of the film, it was powerful and moving. Another bonus is that it was made by the same director who did Dark City, which I reviewed - and enjoyed - earlier.

In other news, I picked up a copy of Layer Cake on DVD for a humble three pounds.

Saw Hardware (AKA Mark 13)... It was okay. I liked it. Seeing it in the context of 1990 must have really been a jolt. Still is good to watch today.

Stacy Travis did a good job in it and it was fun to see some cyberpunk gore. I have the unrated version and it has some good splatter to it!

Just seen LA Confidential. Hmmm, hard to judge this one. I watched this film very much enjoying the movie. Then, as soon as I finished watching it...I had this bas taste left in my mouth, don't know why. I sure as hell know it's a good film, but I felt a bitter by the end of it all, similar relationship with me and coffee. I love the taste of it (latte), then when it's all over, it feels all shitty in my gob. Anyhow, I also saw the little seen The Disappearance with Donald Sutherland, John Hurt and Christopher Plummer. I felt with such a cast, I'd picked up a cult gem, but all I picked up was a brown stain, to wash off my hands later. Truly awful, snoozer of a film, and I am a movie buff, I like mostly slow burning movies, that crackle with flavour in between the slow moments, but this was just dragging and dragging.

Next up: Red Dragon and Basketball Diaries.

With a cast like that, how could it fail? Sadly, actors can only work with what they're given.

By being the dullest film you shall ever see, that is so badly edited, you give up caring what the hell is going on anymore. The pacing of the film is as slow as a 60 year old whore.

Basketball Diaries is good. Shows a realistic depiction of a guy coming down from being strung up off f heroin.

Just bought "From Beyond" (1986) looks to be a good movie.

I'm so into Cyberpunk anime now... I just ordered the USA RUNTIME DVD of AD Police OVAs (UK is total of 90 mins but USA and JAP is 120 mins). I have the AD Police TV set and of course Parasite Dolls (just got DVD) and Bubble Gum Crisis 2040...

http://www.cyberpunkreview.com/cyberpunk-animes/ of ones listed I have almost all...

8 Man After- ordered DVD
A Scanner Darkly- don't have
Aeon Flux- have DVDs
Akira - have DUH LOL! (many DVD sets of this one I own)
Appleseed- ordered DVD
Appleseed (2004)- own DVD
Armitage III- Own DVD
Armitage: Dual Matrix- own DVD
Battle Angel - have from net DL
Black Magic M-66- have from net DL
Bubblegum Crisis- own DVD sets
Cyber City Oedo 808 - have from net DL
f8 - don't have
Fragile Machine- don't have
Galerians: Rion- don't have
Ghost in the Shell- own DVD DUH!
Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence-own DVD
Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex- own DVD
Heavy Metal- have DVD (not cyber punk tho)
Malice@Doll -don't have
Metropolis (2001)- own DVD
Parasite Dolls- own DVD
Reboot- seen it but don't have
Renaissance-don't have
Serial Experiments: Lain- don't have
Texhnolyze- have by net DL
Wonderful Days {Sky Blue}- need to get SOON! (DLing as I post this  )

Ergo Proxy - just DLed from net, will wach soon

Goku Midnight Eye OVAs- own from net DL

All great anime to get!

AD Police is VERY much in line with the Snatcher theme of robots overmatching the ppl who made them and taking control... As is the whole Bubblegum Crisis.

Screens from the UK OVAs that you can get on the net. I can't wait till my USA RUNTIME DVD gets here in a few days.

YES, Snatcher does indeed share far more similarities with all of the various AD Police anime series. It pains me to hear people say 'Blade Runner inspired', when in fact, it's actually got a lot more in line with all of the AD Police storylines (being the OVA, series, Bubblegum Crisis et al).

I've always wondered if the character 'Kojima' from Parasite Dolls is named after Hideo Kojima himself, or is just a coincidence or not...

May I suggest you watch Gungrave and Spriggan, they're also cyberpunk (though, not as much of a showcase when it comes to cyberpunk visuals, they're still obviously, cyberpunk, regardless)

Spriggan contains characters named Little Boy (John) and Fatman, too.

I have Gungrave and Spriggan on DVD. They are cyberpunk as well, I agree. Gungrave is more a mafia and friendship tale (good one tho!) with the cyber punk stuff put into it on the back end. It works really well tho. Hell for a PS2 game as the source material it is AMAZING that it turned out so well and kicked ass like it does.

Have not watched Spriggan in a while but I recall it was fun to view.

I just got for $9 USD (with shipping-no shit!) Mecha Masters DVD set, the one here: http://www.amazon.com/Explosive-Collect ... B00006BSGS

296 mins of Mecha action and some CDs as well. Got mixed reviews but for under $10 USD for all that I'm happy any way. Use eBay and Half.com (another eBay site) and Amazon Market Place to get the best prices always!

I have a few dates with 3 different girls I've been dying to finally get to fuck (logistics- LOL!) coming up this weekend, but I can't wait to tear into all the cool new anime I got as soon as possible. 8)
