I wanna play other versions!! emu help
Hi everyone this is my first post so please bear with me. I've been playing the sega/mega cd version since snatchers was released and love it but I haven't played any other versions yet. I was wondering if there are any other versions that have been translated and emulated that I could try and compare with the version I got. HELP

PC Engine is going to be translated by the kind people here, you should be happy to hear.
Aside from that, well, the MSX version was translated.

I've been introducing my friends to the game, in the hopes of shedding light on Kojima's earlier works to them. Most people you mention Kojima to will reply with Metal Gear Solid or perhaps even Zone of the Enders. It's good to get the games out there, and soon enough we'll be able to spread the word about Policenauts. I haven't played it yet but I've done a lot of reading up about it, and it sounds far more in-depth than Snatcher. Be sure to stick around, because the boys will be finished with the English patch soon.

I've been trying to get my friend to play Snatcher for months now--I even sent him the ISO and the emulator--and he's completely refused to. I even made bets with him (so far, he's lost his first born child, to be called "Turok"). Finally, I threw a vid of the intro at him, and he said to me, "Ok, so Kojima is amazing." Then, play it! Play it! "...Nah, I don't have the time." What he meant, was that he was too busy playing Halo 3. Bastard.

I know what you mean. I tried to tell a friend of mine about it not too long ago and he said "what kind of game is it"? I told him it was kind of a text adventure, very story orientated and he just said "nah, I hate having to read in games I just skip through all that story shit" can't belive how people can be opposed to a game having a storyline.

It's the 80s all over again... Noone wants to make any emotional connections. What, are we afraid of commitment??richarddavies wrote:I know what you mean. I don't think anyone wants to sit through the build-up. They just want zip-bang to the climax, take what entertainment they can, then leave. It's the kind of mentality that's watering down the entertainment industry, which is connected to people's fear of wasting time... blahblahblah... Fear, fear, fear, that's all it is...
Speaking of Halo, I can't believe how popular the series has become. It adds nothing new to the first-person shooter genre, the storyline is your typical science fiction fare, with humans versus aliens. Personally, I think the Metroid Prime series has done more. It's tried to expand on something which has mostly been done before. You've got the morph ball in third person, the unique HUD, an upgrade feature instead of just carrying two weapons at any given time. Oh and puzzles, Metroid Prime has plenty of those to challenge your brain. Halo is just mindless shooting.

I think it's unfair to compare Halo and Metroid Prime. People liked Halo because it was a big-budget PC quality FPS on a console. Metroid Prime's main appeal was that it was a great adventure game, with a first-person view (it also was a great sequel to Super Metroid). In this respect, I wouldn't consider Metroid Prime to be a FPS, despite the fact that much of the gameplay involves shooting while in a first-person view.

I can't speak for the two later installments in the series, but the first Halo is far from "PC quality". The levels are small and badly designed - for instance, the indoor levels are repetitive to the point where you start believing that they designed one room and then copied and pasted that over and over. The shooting segments are unrewarding; the AI is actually bad enough to make it possible for me to play through Halo PC on normal without dying a single time. The graphics were nice back in the day, but when you're rendering environments that small I'm not impressed.I think it's unfair to compare Halo and Metroid Prime. I dislike Metroid Prime as well, but for entirely different reasons. I could go on about them as well, but this is a digression...

I agree. It's a FPA (First Person Adventure game). Other notable titles in the range; Deus Ex series, Half Life series, System Shock series.87th wrote:I think it's unfair to compare Halo and Metroid Prime. Gotta fuck with the sound channels though... I'm not sure I got it to work completely. As well, during speech, the character's mouth positions don't return to a neutral state, they just stay what the last position was. Is that normal?

Run the .exe, tear open the Snatcher .zip, then go to "File - Disk Drive ~" on blueMSX, throw in disk 0, hit "run" under "emulation", press 0 on the prompt, then throw in disk 1 in the same manner as 0, throw up the freqs and the audio settings and the slots, and jam 0 again.... Well... that's what I did anyway. The Prince II wrote:Okay I've downloaded both, the emulators working, but how would I get Snatcher to work?

I tried to emulate SD Snatcher, with my Pentium IV, 512 MBs of ram, A GeForce FX5200 (128 MB i think), but the bloody game can't run at more than 35 fps! How in the name of Random is that possible? I am using the SD-S pack downloaded from HOTU. Also happens with Final Fantasy and the Fangames.
And then the long pulse of Zion Dub...

The biggest difference is the ending. It's far more abrupt and darker. Reason for that is because of lack of space for the hardware for Kojima to complete the game. The PC Engine and Sega CD versions (as well as the PSX and Saturn versions) were the "finished" versions of the game, although the Sega CD version had an extended ending.
I liked the MSX ending the most.

Also, there's one more emulator you forgot to mention: The M88, which is perfect for the PC88 version. That version contains my favorite Snatcher soundtrack, BTW.
