The others have not stood up to the test of time well at all and employ all kinds of cheap gameplay mechanics (the camera - ugh - among other things) to increase the supposed "difficulty", and herein lies one of my problems with many, many video games - their tendency to pass off poor gameplay for difficulty. I've gotten the impression that it's especially common in Japanese games (JRPGs do it a lot; the RE series did it and still does it to some extent; MGS does it etc.), but I could be wrong.
I realise Resident Evil's camera can be bad. And some people find it unplayable, but if you can get used to the gameplay mechanics and camera system, it's good. Plus, I find MGS relatively easy and straight forward, actually, especially in comparison to some games I have played. I guess I'm used to that "Japanese way of playing games", as I am the "Western way of gaming".

But yeah, I can certainly see where you're coming from when it comes to RE, it is a bitch, especially Survivor for PSX...

Dawn of War+Winter Assault, and then I dug up the semi-classic Mean Streets so I can wade my way through to Under a Killing Moon.

DoW was awesome, and MS was made of ideas that didn't quite work out. XP runs Martian Memorandum fine, but without music, while DosBox plays music, and crashes when confronted with video.

That's quite a combination....

I've been playing Silent Hill through for about the 4th time.... I really really appreciate this game's attempt on a cinematic experience, there's been like, numerous times I've stopped and thought to myself, wow, that was perfectly presented. Mind you, the voice acting and script detracts so much from the experience, IMO, it's completely hit/miss buisness... There's alot that gets improved in SH2-- character interaction, overall mood, and of course, Blaustein's fanboy touch~-- but it seems to deal alot more with religious motif, and therefore is less personal, a completely different animal... ex., there are a series of doors later in the game that have seals of Olympian spirits on them, each governing a different planet (Phaleg, Ophiel, Aratron, Hagith, Bethor) as mentioned in the "Arbatel de Magia Veterum"... This theme is returned to in SH3, but I'm ignoring that game lol....

I picked up my G-con 45 from my parents' house a couple weeks back, so my flatmate cruelly suggested we use it to play "Resident Evil Survivor" today. I forgot just how atrocious a game it was.

Playing the game with the gun a complete mess that involves you pulling the trigger away from the screen to walk forwards, and using the "A" and "B" buttons on the side of the gun to turn.

The plot, dialogue and acting is what we were really playing the game for. They are so bad that we were crying with laughter at some points. Particularly notifiable are the cutscenes were the amnesitac protagonist starts to suspect he may have been a murderer called Vincent. He believes this due to the fact that he once answered a payphone, while the caller asked for a Vincent, who was a murderer. Even better is the scene where he believes he can hear the voice of his mother. These scenes are so unprofessional and downright stupid that I find it very difficult to believe that anyone was actually paid for having made them.

I could complain about the game a whole lot more, but I'd be better to summarise it. Resident Evil Survivor is a game so bad that it's seriously difficult to try and believe it was made by people who make their living out of creating videogames.

I remember when that came out, the back of the packaging was covered... Not sure why. Maybe they knew it looked that bad.

RE: Survivor is a bitch to complete too! I played it on hard the first time I got it and was pissed by the end of the game. I agree though, it is a bad game. Most likely the worst in the RE series.

You're probably better off watching videos of it on YouTube, unless you can find it for around a penny.
"REZ-EH-DENT EVIL... SURVIVOR!!"

P.S.
Vincent's mother: Vincent? It's me, your mother!
Protagonist: MY MOTHER!?!?

EDIT-
Caller: Vincent...
Protagonist: Who is this? Vincent? Who's that? Wait... am I Vincent!?
Caller: Vincent, you are a murderer. A MURDERER!
Protagonist: A murderer? What are you talking about? Answer me! WHO DID I KILL!?

I think there's a copy in Gamestation, going for around £4.99. I'll probably pick it up.

Now you've brought it up again, I totally forgot how bad some of the scenes are in the game.

I especially love how that awfully stout elderly man who you find in the library wants to kill you at the end of the game, he is so uber small (nothing against uber small people, haha) that the way he attempts to threaten you just made me laugh out really loud about it. He just looked so weedy and pathetic holding the gun, that it was unintentionally funny.

You get three different people chasing you throughout the game depeding on the location you choose; the movie theatre, the library or the third option, which I forgot. I love how they totally bastardised Mr. X from RE2 in this one too...

EDIT:

*Checks name tag lying on floor beside a lifeless body.*
Vincent: Mark Thompson, eh? (Even though the name is supposed to be 'Ark Thompson', the voice actor says it as 'Mark Thompson')
Vincent (cont): Even though I don't know anything, I do know this was no way for anyone to die. (LOL)

Silent Hill Ørigins, finished a couple of days ago.

Even if it's a little short, this is simply the best game I have ever played on my PSP. I love the Silent Hill series and this game sure deserves it.

And now, Contra 4.

Jeez, Konami is definitely at his best this fall on portable formats. Although I don't love this Contra as much as Contra Hard Corps and Contra Shattered Soldier.

After that, try one of the 2D ones. I suggest Super Metroid, but Metroid Fusion and Metroid: Zero Mission are very good, too.

Well, Zero Mission and Fusion are both GBA games, so out of the games I listed only Super Metroid is available on the VC. The original Metroid is available on the VC too, but I think the remake (Zero Mission) is much better.

I don't know about Metroid Prime 3, but the first Metroid Prime is at the moment my favourite Nintendo game, ever.

After all, the only Nintendo games I really like are the Metroid and F-Zero ones, funny enough because F-Zero GX was done by Sega and it's easily the best in the series.

OutRun 2 is my favourite arcade driving game ever, followed by any Daytona USA game, and I believe the Sega Rally games would be next.

I don't need anymore driving games having those.

Super Mario Galaxy
I haven't 100% completed it yet, (I took a break when I got the 87th star, funnily enough) but I've got through the main story. The game is really great. It doesn't show the 10 years of improvement from Mario 64 that it should, but I'd say that it is much better than that game, despite it.

The game can get bogged down with an unnecessary story, and some "find the purple coins" collect-em-up missions, but otherwise, it's the best 3D platformer I remember playing. The level design is incredibly tight, and the way the game has been designed for players of all skill levels is throughly impressive. At first I thought they had watered down Mario for casual Wii owners, but when I tried to get 100% (something that casuals won't want to bother with), the difficulty slowly went up to a Mario Bros. 3 level.

I'm a huge Resident Evil 4 fan, but I might be tempted to say that Super Mario Galaxy is the best game on the console.

Sin & Punishment
I can't claim to be amongst the most hardcore of Treasure fans, but I really love Gunstar Heroes, so I was eager to buy this when I heard it was coming to the Virtual Console. The most obvious way to describe this game is Gunstar Heroes mixed with Lylat Wars (Starfox 64), but that can't prepare you the nuts plot.

I really can't base too much of an opinion on this game from my single, solitary play-through. I can't decide whether it's too varied or too repetitive, too hard or too forgiving... The only thing I can decide on is that it's certainly too short. For such an epic, end-of-the-world plot, I'm disappointed that there's no sense of closure in the ending.

Sonic The Hedgehog 3
This is far from my first time completing this one. Anyone who's familiar with my taste in games will tell you that I am completely fucking mental about 16-BIT Sonic games (well, only the Japanese ones). I rarely play Sonic 3 without attaching it to Sonic & Knuckles, so I kind of forgot about how much it changes the game. I was kind of surprised to have trouble fighting the final boss (which doesn't appear in Sonic 3 & Knuckles). It's nice to be able to play such a familiar game and still be surprised by it.

I still have to play this one in-depth, as I really am a great Treasure fan, one of those who love Gunstar Heroes, Alien Soldier (my Treasure favourite), Radiant Silvergun, Ikaruga, and so on like Dynamite Headdy, Silhouette Mirage and Bangai-O.

It's funny, but I never liked any of the changes they did to Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles respecting to the original Sonic the Hedgehog 3, neither in music (yes, I prefer ALL the original and removed musics to the new ones) nor in other changes as the boss mentioned, who is still appearing against Knuckles in his storyline though, but without the great final boss music theme of Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

To me, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is simply the best Sonic the Hedgehog game ever.

I'm not very sure where I stand on Treasure any more. I first played Gunstar Heroes, Dynamite Headdy and Alien Soldier on the Mega Drive. At that point, I thought that Treasure could do no wrong. I later bought Freak Out (Stretch Panic) for the PS2. I thought that might have been a one-off disappointment, but when I played Gunstar Future Heroes (Gunstar Super Heroes) on the GBA I wondered if they were really all that good. I wondered if Treasure were just deteriorating, until I played Astro Boy: Omega Factor, which restored my faith in them.

The development team has a hardcore cult following, but I don't think they're quite so consistent great.

Right now, I'm playing Super Metroid via a SNES emulator. I love the opening level, it's very Aliens-esque. I'm also making progress through Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, where there's loads of Phazon Metroids in containment tubes, but unfortunately I need to take an energy cell from the laboratories - which means the forcefields go down and the only thing between me and a hoard of headmunching Metroids is...glass.

I'm of the opposite opinion. I think the music that replaced the original Sonic 3 music is much reminiscent of the previous titles in the series and as such it is more appropriate. Take the opening themes, for instance. S&K(+S3) incorporates the Sonic theme melody from the first two games whereas Sonic 3 doesn't, and that is just wrong.

Last completed game: Crysis. I haven't enjoyed myself to the extent I did during my playthrough of it in a long time. Also the first FPS in a while to offer the player some extent of freedom.

Technically I beat Eternal Sonata for the 360, but you have to beat it twice to get the whole story apparently. So I still have to go through it again, but that's ok, because it's a great game. Too bad the game is hard as hell the second time through.

Also beat the Naruto 360 game not too long back.
