PS1 Memory cards in PS2
So recently I lost my PS1 memory cards. They were official Sony Grey ones, and worked fine in my slimline PS2. But now that I'm looking for new ones, I've got a couple of questions.
1)Will third party cards work in a slimline ps2?
2) Is this card a good deal? Have any of you used this one?
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/ ... 90&sr=8-10
3)Or should I just stick with official Sony PS1 cards?
Thanks guys...can't believe I have to start Chrono Cross and VR Missions all over again, though...I had everything. Oh well.

Re: PS1 Memory cards in PS2
PS1 memory cards of any kind should work in Slimline PS2s. I'd recommend against any PS1 cards that hold more than 15 saves, and unofficial memory cards often use cheap hardware that dies out after a few years, removing your saves. I highly recommend getting an official card, and backing up the saves on a PS2 card (you can transfer PS1 saves to a PS2 card, but PS1 games can't read PS2 cards directly).

I did read about the transfer, and wish I knew about that beforehand, since I can put PS2 data on my computer as a backup. All right, thanks. I'll look into the official ones, then.

Re: PS1 Memory cards in PS2
Yes, look for the original ones... Based on experience, third party memory cards tend to corrupt their files very easily and sometimes gets erased for no apparent reason... ??:

Only trust official Sony memory cards.

Re: PS1 Memory cards in PS2
Ok, I went to a specialty game store today, and found an official one, and a madcatz one. My madcatz lightgun kicks ass still, and I bought it a couple of years ago. Anyone have any experience with the madcatz memory cards? Right now, it seems to work ok.

Re: PS1 Memory cards in PS2
I know the Madcatz PS2 cards are fine, as they were licensed by Sony, but I have no experience with the PS1 cards. I expect they'll be okay, albeit riskier than the official cards.
Re: PS1 Memory cards in PS2
The Madcatz ps1 cards are fine. I've had mine for quite a while now, and I haven't had any problems whatsoever (I can't say the same for my official sony ps2 memory card...darn you sony). Madcatz generally seems to make excellent products. I'd actually go further than anyone else on this thread and say that they seem to be much better than the sony stuff. About half a year or so after I bought my first sony memory card, it deleted all of its data, for no reason. I have 2 madcatz ps2 memory cards now, both of which have caused no problems. Madcatz is a trusted company, even by sony. My theory is that Sony saw that their memory cards were crap compared to Madcatz's, so they went ahead and licensed them.

Re: PS1 Memory cards in PS2
Actually, the PS2 uses Sony's copy-protection technology called "MagicGate". To make a working PS2 memory card, you have to use this technology. MadCatz must have asked for Sony's permission to use MagicGate in their own memory cards, so the licensing would have come with it.JimboKudo wrote:My theory is that Sony saw that their memory cards were crap compared to Madcatz's, so they went ahead and licensed them.
Re: PS1 Memory cards in PS2
Lol, I never noticed that. It even says Magicgate on the front of the memory card. Thanks for pointing that out......I still think sony makes crap compared to madcatz though....
