Patch is up (v1.01 incoming)
Re: Current Project Status (1/14/09): Alpha Testing
That would truly be the most hilarious un-joke ever done on April 1st.
Glad to hear about the progress anyway. I'm trying to keep myself from playing the prologue again before the patch is released. Maybe I'll play through Snatcher to tide myself over.

Re: Current Project Status (1/14/09): Alpha Testing
I am actually playing MSX Snatcher to hold me over until the patch. Before this I played through the Sega CD and Saturn version. I think I will play through the PC-Engine version of Snatcher next and then maybe Policenauts will finally be ready. BTW - Thanks Artemio for the MSX translation, I never thought I would be able to play it in English, I love the atmosphere of the MSX version its very cyberpunk.JimboKudo wrote:That would truly be the most hilarious un-joke ever done on April 1st.

Re: Current Project Status (1/14/09): Alpha Testing
I played through the MSX translation a long time ago. I remember setting the emulator to the original MSX clock speed and real floppy access time. It takes a lot more potato chips to play through it that way, heh.

Re: Current Project Status (1/14/09): Alpha Testing
That's actually how I am playing it right now. I have this weird thing about playing games in the most original way when they were released... But it is almost like self-inflicted torture...khmr33 wrote:I played through the MSX translation a long time ago. Re: Current Project Status (1/14/09): Alpha Testing
Normally I agree, but with Snatcher I played it at %600 speed. Needless to say that I had to read REALLY fast. Also, I had to save often, because the insectors can kill you quickly at that rate. You mentioned it being really cyberpunk. For some reason the MSX version has more of that feel than the Sega CD one.

Re: Current Project Status (1/14/09): Alpha Testing
CAN ANYONE PLEASE... walk me through how to get the MSX Snatcher translation and to get it to work? pm me or just type it up here, so that maybe if others are interested can know too.
Maybe I'm being a dummyhead with this, but I definitely would rather ask than never play it.

Post that stuff in the other threads.

Thank you. I think akor is long overdue for a warning... maybe even a temp ban?seraphssavior wrote:Post that stuff in the other threads.
Re: Current Project Status (1/14/09): Alpha Testing
I know what I wanna talk about and it's the damn SZ event sector in Policenauts. I hate the damn thing as it's all compiled bytecode but I think I'm finally getting the hang of it and bang - one more bug killed.
16 to go!
I don't like to update the count too frequently because it does tend to go up behind the scenes, but this fix was a couple weeks in the making and I'm pretty happy I never have to worry about it again. ...*knock on wood*

Thats awesome.
Re: Current Project Status (1/14/09): Alpha Testing
Just to be clear, we still have to beta test the game once we get down to a 0 count; it's not like the patch gets released at 0.
Re: Current Project Status (1/14/09): Alpha Testing
but in theory it should have to take as long to complete as Alpha for example ?Marc wrote:Just to be clear, we still have to beta test the game once we get down to a 0 count; it's not like the patch gets released at 0.

Re: Current Project Status (1/14/09): Alpha Testing
In theory, It should be playing the game all over again a few times doing different kind of things and/or checking if one choice plus another may or not hang the game. Am I wrong?Marc wrote:In theory it shouldn't take as long.abhi wrote:but in theory it should have to take as long to complete as Alpha for example ?Marc wrote:Just to be clear, we still have to beta test the game once we get down to a 0 count; it's not like the patch gets released at 0.

Yeah, that sounds about right. I've never done any beta testing, but that seems like the modus operandi.

Oh BETA testing is alot of fun! (sometimes ).seraphssavior wrote:"I agree with you in theory, Marge. In *theory,* communism works...in Theory." -Homer Simpson
Yeah, that sounds about right. I've never done any beta testing, but that seems like the modus operandi.
I've beta tested a dozen games, with varied results.
I've come across MAJOR game wrecking bugs, And sometimes it's just some minor tweaking of things.
But of course ALL of the games I beta tested have been "modern" 3D games, most of wich were online multiplayer games to top it off.
Policenauts is just 2D, so I doubt there will be as mamy problems surfacing during the beta.
But I can honestly say I don't have a clue when it comes to something like this project,
since it's a 2D game hacked/patched/translated...whatever you want to call it...you guy's are killing it! (in a good way)
I'm hoping the official "final" release will come out in July......just in time for my B-Day....LOL!
Re: Current Project Status (1/14/09): Alpha Testing
We're discovering a number of text-related bugs right now during alpha, so the line between alpha and beta feels blurred. When we say beta, we mean all the changes we plan on introducing are in and we play through the game to make sure there aren't any bugs we missed during alpha. After beta we do have gamma, but that shouldn't last as long as beta.

I was also originally hoping that this would be released for my birthday months ago. But seeing that my birthday is Tuesday, it is not going to happen. Maybe by July though...el_ash wrote:I'm hoping the official "final" release will come out in July......just in time for my B-Day....LOL!

It's not related at all but the Bare Knuckle III translation is finally done! Now all that remains on the (hopefully imminent) radar is Policenauts!

YES YES YES!
Finally! I remember hearing about that project and getting excited. Finally I can play the full version of Streets of Rage 3, as it was supposed to be played and with the real storyline (which is pretty damn good for a brawler title). Thanks for that post, Pulstar!
