I know this isn't really what we're talking about here, but is the first graphic novel any good? I was thinking of buying it at Borders the other day, but I wasn't sure what the actual feedback was. Also, would it be better to buy the digital graphic novel or the regular one (comic book)?

It's nothing to get excited about. The start of it takes too few creative liberties, and the end is a polar opposite. It's a worthwhile addition to a collection, but not much more than that.

Okay, so I guess I'll get it, but maybe I'll pass for now. In any case the second one looks amazing, but (and I know I'll be stoned for this) I'm a bit dissapointed that they don't have the english voices. I like both versions of the voices, but I don't want to get used to the Japanese voices, and then go back to english and not be used to it anymore. I've never gotten to play a MG game in Japanese, except for a demo of MGS3 that was in a magazine, and, frankly, how did anyone get through the games without first having great knowledge of the language? Unless everyone here is fluent in Japanese, but I don't think that's the case.

It would be great if someone who read the MGS4 novel (Osiris ?) could "review" it (give us a synopsis, criticize the novel, tell us if it adds something to the game).

I knew the Metal Gear novel would suck (I'd touched mister Benson's work before in his James Bond novel, "Never Dream of Dying")... I snuck a peek inside of it at my local book store, and was pretty appalled. Any contact with this novel in conjunction with the acclaim that the Metal Gear series has just serves to perpetuate the perception of video gamers as a bunch of morons.
Also... SolidSharkey.com had transcripts of some of the Worlds of Power books, not entirely sure if Metal Gear was in there, though it's a safe bet... His site went southside quite some time ago, with a big 'fuck you' from its caretaker...

Agreed with mister 87th there, they seemed to play it safe at first then kindof realized what road they were on, and did a 180... Also, you may want to test the art of Ashley Wood first. Alot of people dislike his digital painting style, although he's just doing what he's paid for... In my opinion, he has a wonderful utilization of impressions, lighting, and color.... Of course, it's a distinctly American digestion of the characters' appearances.

It's just yet another exploitation of MGS1. Seriously the amount of times MGS1's plot has been remade, is unbelievable. GC remake, In The Darkness of Shadow Moses: The Unofficial Truth (best), this hilariously bad novel (hey, I do go back and read it for a laugh, the dialogue is especially bad), the graphic novel series, MG: Digital Graphic Novel, heck, even a radio drama. If you feel so inclined, one could also say that the Plant Chapter is a remake of MGS1 too (Ocelot says as much).

Plus MPO is basically the equivalent Shadow Moses for Big Boss.

If you want to, you could also include the Shadow Moses stage from Super Smash Bros. for Wii (which Kojima himself did) and the Shadow Moses stage from Little Big Planet. So many...really has been whored out for all its worth.

The radio drama does feature most of MGS1 characters, but it doesn't follow the same formula/plot as MGS1 (recovering wounded and lost soldiers after a plane crash, taking pictures of a facility producing chemical weapons located in the jungle, ...) IMHO.

I wouldn't call it a MGS1 remake. It's more like an alternative sequel to the Shadow Moses incident than anything else.

By the way, you forgot to mention Metal Gear: Ghost Babel, which is heavily based on MG2/MGS1.

Yeah, I suppose not.

But hey, you're right about Ghost Babel. And you know what I forget to mention in my post? Shadow Moses in MGS4! How could I have forgotten that one?

Anyway, I think it's safe to say that they've done all they can to whore out MGS1 now.
Now lets hope Konami finally leave it alone. (We like Shadow Moses, but not that damn much, geez).

Made up quote based on previous crap wrote:With seconds left, Raiden manages to freeze the final bomb planted on the Big Shell. "They should call me Jack Frost after nipping all those explosives." Raiden jokes to himself as he gets a codec call from Plisken. "Ice work kid, I still have a few bombs left."
