I was on Gamerankings.com, and for a laugh I decided to look through some average rankings of old games. Naturally one of my first searches was "Metal Gear". If you're unfamiliar with Gamerankings.com, it's a site that takes scores of all the reviews from the big sites and averages them out.
I came to a page with these types of scores-
MetalGear Solid 3: Snake Eater- 92.8% (Should be a bit higher)
MetalGear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty- 95.1% (Shouldn't be higher than MGS3)
MetalGear Solid- 92.7% (Definitely should be higher than than MGS2)
and then I saw-
MetalGear Solid (MetalGear: Ghost Babel)- 98.1% (WHAT!?)
Okay, I could see where the rank came from, as it really did push the hardware to its limits, and despite some annoying sections it was still a good game. However, it really had no place riding on top of the series. There were far too many annoyances, a fairly poor plot, some crappy characters, and an abysmal 2-Player mode.
I just shook my head.
Then, I looked at the overall best scores chart. Guess what was sitting right behind Ocarina of Time (which is the Number 1 game in the chart). Yup- Ghost, bloody, Babel. Honestly, look for yourself-

To be honest, I think 7.8/10 (the lowest rank listed for the game) is a fair score.

Maybe the score relates to the other games on the GBC, in which case it kind of deserves it, at least a 9/10 average. Also it only has 13 reviews, which could be a factor. All the other MGS games have many more.

That is of course correct. When these people rate games they rate them in comparison to the rest of that platform's offerings, not in comparison with every other game ever made. That's not to say such a comparison isn't possible, but it's just not the way it's usually done. Someone who saw that score would know that MGS for the GBC is one of the finest GBC games, but wouldn't expect stunning visuals and lengthy amounts of real sound dialogue because he would automatically think of it as being the best for that platform.FOX-HOUND wrote:Maybe the score relates to the other games on the GBC
So you think MGS2 is the worst of the three...87th wrote:MetalGear Solid 3: Snake Eater- 92.8% (Should be a bit higher)
