As the title says really, can't get a clear cut answer when Googling it!
"Shalashaska" (シャラシャーシカ Sharashāshika), was Ocelot's nickname when he was younger.
The Official MGS Database, says this...
Revolver Ocelot's nickname. In his younger days, Ocelot took part in the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. He struck fear in the hearts of Afghan guerrillas, who called him the Shalashaska.

I take it you didn't listen to the Push To Talk interview with Jeremy Blaustien.

Never heard of it mate. Is that quote specifically referring to the name "Shalashaska"?
In what context is it used? And, do you have a link to said interview?

Native Russian speaker here, I know it's kinda late to reply but I still will:
Even when I - native Russian speaker - first saw "Shalashaska" word I had no idea what it means, it does sound kind of russian though. People kept saying it's coming from russian word for prison and then I got it right away - it comes from word Шарашка = Sharashka, which actually does not mean prison, it means, from my words: "A research/labor/work facility organized within prison (Gulag)". But I have no idea why they changed it to be Shalashaska.
Hopefully someone will find this helpful
Interesting fact from top of my head: Sergei Korolev - soviet rocket engineer who designed first soviet spaceships and satellites was working in sharashka

MGS5 actually has an explanation behind the "Shalashaska" name. tl;dr it's a combination between "sharashka" and "shashka", a type of sword.
