Nope. There was only talk about it.stalepie wrote:I think an English patch for the Mega CD version of Illusion City exists.
Nothing has been done, as far as I am aware.
I have heard that the text in the game is stored as uncompressed SJIS text files, which should make translation easier.

Re: recommend games like snatcher/policenauts
Guys, thanks for all the suggestions.
However, I've decided to move my lazy ass and to finally get the equipment to play Policenauts. I already bought a mouse and a PAL/NTSC converter cable and am now in pursuit of a (modded) PSX.
I never play games on an emulator or play copies, so I just don't already have a modded PSX. But now I've taken the first steps I will be playing Policenauts soon I hope. (If the patching process isn't to difficult, never done something like that before.)
When I've finished Policenauts I'll play Nightshade. Thanks to the Happy Video Game Nerd I already own a complete set of the game. Then I'll delve deeper into (accquiring) Deja Vu, it looks very interesting.
Now if only I could find a modded PSX. Or, does someone now if I use a slide card on the PS2, will it be able to play Policenauts?

You don't have to go through all that. If you have a PS2 Slim lying around, unscrew it and block the sensors.

Re: recommend games like snatcher/policenauts
You don't necessarily have to have your PS1 modded to play backups.
You can use the game enhancer swap trick (the method I used) to play Policenauts.
Here is a video I found on YouTube demonstrating it...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aI6yOw806hA
I personally used a Gold Finger that I got for $3 at my local used game store (only works with first generation PS1's that have the IO port in the back).
If you have any problems patching it just follow the guide I made in the Policenauts section of this forum.

Famicom Detective Club II deserves a mention. It's not sci-fi like Snatcher/Policenauts, but has excellent atmosphere and story.
It's fully fan translated and you don't need to have played the first game - http://www.romhacking.net/translations/850/
And for those interested, someone is working on a translation for the PC98 version of Illusion City - http://www.dedtech.com/Games/
Edit: Oops, didn't realize there was a topic about Famicom Detective here
If you're into Bubblegum Crisis series, then you can try Bubblegum Crash for the PC Engine - also fully translated: http://www.romhacking.net/translations/1234/

An obscure one that comes to mind is Eve Burst Error. The game was actually an erotic visual novel to begin with, but it was localized such that the "erotic" content was removed. I originally played it because the storyline was said to be excellent (the main reason why it was ported). It has a cult following so you might be able to grab yourself a copy. I will warn, however, that the dialogue is fairly raunchy, the subject matter is adult, and any of the sequels that you can find, translation patch or none, are pornographic. That being said, if you enjoy a solid detective story, this may be up your alley.

Thank you so much for letting me know about this (as far as I can see) very good game. There is brilliant iOS remake called “Manhattan Requiem” with awesome visual style, ugly menus and completely “ENUGURISHU DESU-KA” translation. But anyway it’s a good game despite it’s bad translation. Still playable as hell. And it supports 960×640 resolution.stalepie wrote:Another mystery game:

DreamWeb.
You can download it here: http://scummvm.org/downloads/Dreamweb is a DOS and Amiga point-and-click cyberpunk top-down adventure game first released in 1992, then later released on CD in 1994, and developed by Creative Reality and published by Empire Interactive Entertainment.
The game features mature themes and a dark plot filled with violence and brief full frontal nudity; rare for games, especially at the time.
Dreamweb was released as freeware in October 2012.

Re: recommend games like snatcher/policenauts
Dreamweb was actually a funnycase because I downloaded the game to play it from an abandonware site before it was announced as freeware. I wanted to see the how the CD-talkie version was and the youtube playthrough didn't get too far so I went and downloaded it via less honorable methods. Just a little bit later I found it was announced as freeware, which means that it was easy to find right on the ScummVM website (/_-)

Tried to check out Rise of the Dragon and Blade Runner. Turns out Blade Runner doesn't work (the main menu goes apeshit) and RotD has traps that prohibit you from moving on if you say something wrong to someone. That sucks.

Re: recommend games like snatcher/policenauts
That was one of the things that I really didn't like about RotD, but I ended up just using a walkthrough when I got stuck. You really start to clue in after the first part of the game, when you hit a brick wall, so it poses less of a problem later on. Sega CD version has great voice acting, courtesy of Cam Clarke.TechNoir wrote:Tried to check out Rise of the Dragon and Blade Runner. Re: recommend games like snatcher/policenauts
I strongly recommend not playing CYPHER. It's very poorly written, and the parser makes very little sense.
I second Gemini Rue. It's a stunning point-and-click adventure game set in a futuristic space world with noir styling. In the same vein (and from the same company) is the newer Primordia, which again is great. It takes place in a post-human world full of androids and machines.
