Retrogaming Discussion / XRGB Help Thread

Post by SnatcherMkII »

If there's a thread like this already, then bite me.

So this site and its forum are basically for fans of Hideo Kojima's works other than Metal Gear, but this site also has a wiki for XRGB enthusiasts, so I decided to make a thread for every retro-game enthusiasts and collectors.

Having issues with your Framemeister?
Trying to figure out those pesky cables for your TV?
"Want to complain about the 240p test suite not being in your favorite platform?" (Courtesy of Artemio)
Wanna complain about how there are no VGA or RGB CRT monitors in your area (Yes, I'm projecting here)?

This is the thread right here!

^ Maybe I should've add that as well.

Anyway, I've beaten the two GBA Metroid games and Super Metroid using this romhack (and AM2R if that counts). Now I patiently await for a Japanese SEGA Saturn controller to come with a USB Adapter so I can play some arcade emulation.

Also, there's a Secret of Mana 3D remake if that's your thing: http://gematsu.com/2017/08/secret-mana- ... ps-vita-pc

Y no 3D remakes of Soul Blazer trilogy? Terranigma's my shit.

Double-post: So while I'm waiting for my Saturn controller to arrive from Japan, my Mayflash SS USB adapter came in last week and just today I've picked up the MK-80112 Virtua Stick (that one arcade stick that not many Saturn collectors and the fighting community remotely likes) from a redneck flea market for twenty bucks, and lemme tell ya, it was dirty. So I got back to my place to clean it up with a damp paper towel and removed most of the dirt and tested it on Streets of Rage Remake for the PC. It works. Just wished that you can replace the buttons and stick with those Swana ones that everyone keeps clamoring about, but what can ya do about it.

Before then, I've gotten two Super Famicom games; one of them being a Japanese-exclusive Mickey Mouse game that let's you use ballons and the other one being Kirby Bowl (Dream Course) from a different flea market.

Also, in regards to MEDNAFEN's Saturn core, its website states that "a quad-core Intel Haswell-microarchitecture CPU with a base frequency of >= 3.3GHz and a turbo frequency of >= 3.7GHz(e.g. Xeon E3-1226 v3) is recommended". Is that just for 3D titles or do all games require said CPUs for this emulator? I have an AMD FX-6300 (along with an EVGA GTX 950) that was just for Dark Souls 3, so I'm kinda concerned.

I'd just assume it's for all games. My CPU is still kicking ass as of 2018, but I haven't tried putting it against CEMU and RPCSX3 yet, even though there are reports that it still butters the bread on these. Cycle-accurate emulation for retro consoles, on the other hand, isn't really my cup of tea, but I'm glad it's getting more attention these days.

I've been collecting retro consoles for a while, but a lot of my nitpicky issues prevent me from playing on them for the time being, like a lack of a CRT TV (PVM's ain't gonna happen considering I live in the middle of nowhere, unfortunately).

Okay, so shortly after my last post here, I got an HP Pavilon v50 CRT Monitor, and while it isn't in great shape, I can at least use it for RetroArch.

However, MEDNAFEN's Saturn core runs around 50 - 70% full speed on my computer, even if a game is 2D and all that jazz, so if I ever want to play Saturn games, I'll just stick with SSF at its highest settings for now until I get a more beefier computer.

Does ScummVM count for "retro"?
Or does this refer to stuff like actual 8-bit and 16-bit game emulators?

Don't mind me I'm still kind of a newbie when it comes to emulating games ;;
