Policenauts References

Post by Jonathan Ingram »

I know this subject is much documented, but I spotted [yet] another.

When Raiden enters Big Shell, and he comes out of the water, the camera, slightly disoriented and blurred from being underwater lingers on the two diving suits that are by the pool, and I couldn't help but be reminded of EMPS, or at least a hard suit. And isn't the literal translation of space walking from Japanese 'swimming'?

I just couldn't help but think of Policenauts =) perhaps that's just me =P

Yes, I always thought that was a reference to Policenauts... Just like the EMPS in ZOE is.

In Japanese, the word for space walk is uchuuyuuei, which translates as 'space swim'.

Or what about the planned appearance of Karen Hojo at the end of Sons of Liberty? Of course dates wouldn't add, but when have they when references are made?

Funny thing is that some of the subtitle sare in the final version of the game.....

Peter Stillman was originally written to be a younger version of Ed Brown (who was once a bomb disposal specialist in Policenauts' continuity), but that was changed after they realized that needed kill off Ed to advance the story.

Well, since Kojima's universes aren't exactly always in line with each other, they still could have killed 'Ed' anyway, I think... Look at the age difference for Meryl between MGS and Policenauts.

Anyway, in MGS2, the voice actor who plays Stillman is the same one who plays Ed in Policenauts, for those who didn't know.

Doesn't he also play Mr. T in the dubbed A-Team movie in Japan =) ?

But great about the Stillman - Ed link, can't believe I never saw the similarity before.

I think the Ed-Stillman thing is mentioned in the Art of MGS2...

I don't know your sources, but he's not <<A MGS3 CHARACTER>>.

Keep any MGS3 spoiler or comment inside the spoiler board next time.

I don't see it as a spoiler but ok, theres just some things that don't seem like spoilers to even a person new to the game. I never said he would be <<A MGS3 CHARACTER>>, but it's said, but that voice actor is returning and that is not a spoiler. It's funny, someone telling me how to follow rules I beset  You're a riot johnny

The spoiler about <<A MGS3 CHARACTER>> has now been covered... That is what he was refering to my friend, there are lots of people that have refrained even from that info pal, that's why...

The diving suit may or may not have been a reference to Policenauts. I still remain undecided on that one. Though the guards in the space men-like suits seem to be an obvious reference as well. I know there were some other references I noticed while I was playing the game, but I can't think of them now. Damn.

A little riddle: Through Policenauts, he manages to link MGS and MGS3...

In Policenauts, Meryl wears Dave's goggles in his memory at the end, and in MGS Meryl has Dave's body warmer jacket, and just look at EVA's goggles in MGS3. Dave Forrest. Who would have thought eh?

http://policenauts.shadowmoses.net/char ... meryl.html [3rd picture down, sorry it's rubbish, but she is wearing his goggles in the same place EVA wears hers]

Yeah, I noticed the goggles thing right away in MGS3. I was also reading the script of MGS2 last night for the very first time and was surprised to read that a news broadcast was cut from the very end of the game reporting about how Arsenal had knocked over the Statue of Liberty, but got cut after 9/11 of course. Apparently the person who was going to report the broadcast was to be Karen Hoyjo. That would have been cool I'm sorry it got cut.

While I always knew about David's jacket in MGS, I didn't really knew about Eva's goggles until now (considering I paid more attention to Eva's cleavage than I did with the goggles). :D
