The latest Kojima Production Report- really worthwhile!

Post by 87th »

I'll get to the important stuff first. Goichi Suda (killer7, Contact) has been in further talks with Kojima and are now talking about a 'Project S'. This is pretty much confirmation that Kojima and Suda are working on something together. Whether it's the same game is unknown, but we can only hope (Ryan also kind of slips out that it's a game). What does 'S' stand for, anyway? Secret? Suda? Snatcher? I'd love to think it was the last one (Suda has said he's a fan of it) and the idea of Kojima and suda51 working on a new game in the series is probably my ideal idea for a game (I think I even said this before they had met each other).

There is also a little interview with Suda himself at the end, which I really enjoyed. It also seems to be a little Adventure game themed, backing up my theory about this being a new Snatcher game.

Ryan Payton also reveals the new name for MGS:BD- 'MetalGear Solid: Digital Graphic Novel'. Nothing too different, really.

I'm really excited about the Kojima/suda51 collaboration, though. I'm also really excited about all the clues pointing towards a new Snatcher game (or remake). :D

From the status page of Junekr HQ (a couple of days ago). I didn't think it had much more relevance.. good to hear it does!!!!
09/03/2006 During Hidechan Radio #31 Suda51 and Kojima talk about Gyakuten Saiban (Phoenix Wright), Snatcher and Policenauts (minute 6:00); the background music is "Theme of Ending" from the MSX version of Snatcher. Unfortunately they are talking about the low sales of the genre. By the way, if you haven't played Phoenix Wright and have a DS, give it a try... I loved the game. Thanks to Osiris for pointing this out.

That is great to hear!

I would love to see Snatcher again! (although we have seen so many ports of it now)

It's funny listening to Kojima and Suda talk about the project.

"Maybe it's S for Suda..."

"Maybe it's S for Kojima Hideo-san..."

"Maybe it's S for Silver Jiken..."

"Nintendo DS..."

But it is an adventure game.

Do you think the game will be for DS, or Revolution? They did meet at the Revolution Developers conference so that would point to it being a Rev game, but Suda51 is doing a Rev game right now, and Kojima is planning to do one in the future.

Suda's Revolution game is different from Project S.

Yeah, the game Grasshopper are working on at the moment isn't Project S.
suda said that it would be risky for a small company like Grasshopper to much on making a game, so they're not planning to develop for PS3 or XBox360. The collaboration with Kojima Productions might give him that opportunity.

I didn't mean that I thought Suda51's Rev game was for 'Project S', I was saying that he is already doing a Rev game, and Kojima is planning his own. So if they are both doing 2 seperate brand new Rev games then them working on another Rev game together would take time. BUT, the game must be for Rev, or a Nintendo console, because they talked about doing a game at a Rev developers confers + it will be in the 'adventure game genre' which will make it a gamble to do on 360 or PS3, as adventure games don't tend to sell well they said.

Well, I think what they said about working together at the Revolution conference was said jokingly, and then they decided it might be worth doing afterwards. I think a new Snatcher (or even Policenauts, for that matter) would work best on the Revolution, anyway (combining a pad and an aimable gun). I think a suda game, a Kojima game and a Kojima/suda game is more than enough to get me to buy a Revolution.

So, one Hideo Kojima (alone) Revolution game, one Suda51 (alone) Revolution game and one Hideo Kojima/Suda51 joint Revolution game? Or, do you think that Hideo Kojima's planned game will bring in Suda51 for help (making it 2 games), or do you think they're 3 different games in total?

I think there will be three different games as both suda's and Kojima's games had began production before they had even met each other. I also think there is some likelyhood in the new game being on PS3 or 360, as suda would like to work on them, but is afraid to throw the limited supply of Grasshopper's money at making an expensive game, but Kojima Productions would likely be the major developing force behind the new game, so there wouldn't be so many budget worries.

But, if it is from the adventure genre -- that has been strongly hinted at -- then it would be a big risk to make that type of game on PS3, or 360, as they don't make real profit. Also, an adventure genre game would be amazingly more suited to the Revolution controller than either 360's or PS3's conventional pads.

I know that it's unlikely they'll make it for PS3 of 360, but I still don't think we should confirm it as a Revolution exclusive, yet.

Snatcher would work well on the DS, but I don't think they'd be able to do much new with that type of technology.

Have you played Gyakuten Saiban (Phoenix Wright)?

I don't say it blew m away for the technological use.. but it fell way too natural, and the technology use in the last case was good (since it is a port of the first gyakuten saiban for the gab to the DS). But man.. was I a happy chap when playing that game, it had me hooked for a week in my spare time. I even ended up buying the Japanese special edition and stuff...

The sdk is cheap, it can have the elements of the adventure game, can use accesories through the GBA port, and Capcom has experience on it. Not a bad target.

So Phoenix Wright is recommended then? I'm thinking of picking up a DS at the end of the month for Resident Evil, Castlevania and a few other titles, but I also kind of want to wait for a Lite too...but yes, I for whatever reason doubt it is a Snatcher remake, I think a new Snatcher title would be more likely but again I doubt they will do that either, I think that we will get an all new game using the best of both Suda and Kojima's talents, possibly for DS as they both are fans of the system and as of right now have nothing in the works for it

Yes the DS lite is really sweet. I am still waiting for mine.. it will take a while though, they really did sold out.

Yes, I loved Phoenix. I believe it is nota game for everyone... But I recommend this trailer. Just keep in mind that the trailer is "tongue in cheek" humor, the game cases are about murders. That doesn't mean it doesn't have humour all around. The game is just like the trailer, but without voices (I believe it would not fit in the DS cart, nor a UMD if it did). I believe Snatcher fans should give it a try, though the setting and differences might not be attractive to everyone.

About good DS titles I have the following that I highly recommend: Mario Kart DS, Sonic DS, Viewtiful Joe, Castlevania and Meteos. I also would recomend the following if you are not "scared" by "childish" and "rare" games: Kirby, Feel the Magic, Rub Rabbits, WarioWare touched and ElectroPlankton (not a game, but a very interesting piece of interactive musical software). Also, if you like shooters, Nanostray is a very good game.

On the subject of recommended DS games, try Osu Tetake Ouendan (Japanese, though this is no issue as the DS is multi region) unless you specifically hate rhythm games, it's excellent and has universal praise.

Also, Tetris DS and Metroid prime: hunters are due next week, both with online multiplayer. In May there's the new 2d Mario too.

"Wh...what is this almost painful silence" ahh that trailer is brilliant, i think i will get a DS for that game alone, it comes out over here at the end of the month so i will probably pick it and Resi and a DS...if i have the money....the kirby game was something i liked the look of despite its child like finish, might pick it up too

So Suda/Kojima game is for Revolution or DS, I was thinking it could be for the DS as they both are busy on Rev games already, and Suda's DS game is finished/ or near to finished. Plus it would be really dishonourable for them to do it on an other system when they originally met at a Nintendo conference, and discussed doing a Rev game.

I just found Phoenix Wright in a store who recently started importing, I was surprised as I thought stocks were non-existant now and that the game had been discontinued. Definitely reminds me of Snatcher in its interface. The content is a different kind of awesome, though :)

I was inspired by this to finally play Killer7, something i picked up about a month of 2 ago and hadn't really touched, I just finished the first chapter and can easily say this is unlike anything i have ever played, but in a good way.If this is what Suda (with the help of Shinji Mikami) can do, Suda and Kojima would be some kind of beautiful orgasim of game kind, i wonder what there working on....
