Online mode IDs

Post by Artemio »

Yesterday I got my copy of Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence Limited Edition (w/bonus), so scans will be up today by noon. Man, I loved that online mode. I thought I wouldn't spend that much time there, but I might be wrong. My ID is "Junker HQ" (Snatcher was taken), so if you see me online be sure to take advantage of my lacking skills.

As long as there's no dickheads on this site, mine will be 87th when it's released in Europe.

My name is GcDiaz. You'll often find me in the insertcredit room, Campbell lobby. How about we set a standard room/password for JunkerHQ people? Anyone who wants to host can use the combo for easy ID, and the PW will keep out those not of the true faith.

M63, providing accurate suppresive fire from the prone position. Those two never stood a chance. I love Team Deathmatch.

Actually, that's valid, just because Konami makes us wait so much.

I haven't gotten to go online yet (I don't have broadband at my house, so I'm going to have to go play at other peoples' houses). Is not having a USB headset that big of a deal or should I go buy one before playing online?

Internet Connection Sharing is always a valid option, but it would be best if you're willing to stay out of the rooms with higher player counts (four to six would probably be a good limit) . Either way, the option is there if you've got a network adapter and are willing to be patient.

EDIT: Also, can anyone CONFIRM that this game is in fact cross region compatible? That'd be great, if possible.

I finally got to play online today. My user name is OtakupunkX (no surprise there).

I really did terrible. It was interesting though, I stayed away from team games because I'm lacking both a USB mic and keyboard.

That's OK, tho. One thing you can do (as I have done, lacking the headset/kb myself) is set text macros. Go to your online options, and at the bottom you'll see spots where you can fill in text to be shown with the press of a single key (F1-F12). I'd recommend some basic stuff like yes, no, thanks, no thanks; offensive and defensive commands are already provided ("Go!", "Hold!", "Protect the target!", "Stay together!", etc). Keep in mind, some people won't listen to you regardless of how you communicate.

There's really not that much need for coordination once you know what you're doing. I find that most people (in Snake v Enemies, for example) know enough to guard the microfilm and goals, and support each other when Snake is spotted. One game in particular (capture), it was a 2-on-2 situation; the guy captured the Kerotan and ran for the goal, while I hung back prone and took out the pursuers. Neither of us had headsets; just seemed like the right strategy for the situation. It worked.

If you feel inclined, look me up - I'm usually in the Campbell lobby with the rest of the insertcredit crowd. Have we decided on an "official" lobby, btw?
