A press release I saw somewhere had a 1 paragraph description of the movie's plot, and it was the same as MGS1.

...that's really too bad, considering that MGS1 doesn't really make that much sense without knowing how the previous two parts of the story went down.

I agree... It looses tons of weight, connotation wise...

Hm, most of the people played MGS without even knowing about MG and MG2:S (I'm one of those), and they still liked MGS a lot (me also), so I think the MGS plot doesn't necessarily need the knowledge from the first 2 games. It adds a lot and makes you play MGS in a diferent way, but played alone, it's still great.

Btw, having already beat MG and MG2:S, I played MGS after those and it felt like some of the "inovations" we see, all fade away because they were already used in '87. And not only about the mechanics of the game, plot-wise too (the plot-twists have something similar).

MGS1 is like a entirely new start on the MGS series. You don´t need to know about MG1 & MG2:SS to enjoy MGS1. I´m wonderying which ending they are going to choose though
What?

Everything that happened in MG1 & MG2 is revealed over the course of the game in MGS. It's clear to me that Kojima designed it on purpose assuming most people had not've played the MSX vers. Considering he retconned the Big Boss/Solid Snake relationship in MGS, too...

Agreed, but...
The tapes... They couldn't possibly put that much information into the movie...
Man, it'd be cool if they based the movies on the first two Metal Gear games... I think it'd be stories alot of metal gear fans need elaborating on...

Someone on another forum (I think) wondered if Campbell will have a "Everyone leave the theater now!" kind of 4th wall-breaking line.

Too bad that wouldn't work if you watch it at home, but man... that would be so powerful to watch I would probably geek-scream something at the theater xD
Well... if he said my signature, I would die, lol.

Btw, seriously, it would be great if they implemented some kind of codec scenes. I think someone mentioned this already, but they are, in fact, 30% or 40% of the game(s).

They can just have action during codec talks instead of codec onscreen, which would be like the real-game footage slapped in the movie ver of House of the Dead. It's bad enough in MGS2 when they got lazy about cutscenes and just gave you two-hour conversations through codec.

Well, they could just put a little scene at the begining of the movie. It could be a great intro.

Hm, what if it was a Blu-Ray player? xD

Imagine Psycho Mantis 'reading people's minds', it would be a great way of implementing jokes into breaking the fourth wall, like for instance tell the person on the back row seat to be quiet etc.

In gaming, 4th wall breaking is appreciated, called incredibly clever and original. In film making, it's sighed at, called silly and campy.
The best I've seen it done in film making is in End Of Evangellion, when in a very important speech, it cuts from anime into live-action footage. At one point it shows a theatre full of people. It really hits home that the points being mentioned are supposed to relate to the filmgoers. It's not anywhere as fun or direct as a character actually talking to someone in the theatre, though.

Yeah, that scene is very nice. Also, in the same vein, there's Persona, way older and live-action.
But there are some "breaking the 4th wall" + "character talking to the audience" that work very well, like Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain.
There are a lot of experimental and avant-garde films that explore this technique, and some are very interesting. The thing works, it just needs to be well applied. Commonly, in most known films, "breaking the 4th wall" only comes with humor/comedy and that doesn't work very well (looks silly, campy, etc).

It happens to a great extent in The Shining with its ending, surely everyone remembers that? One of the greatest moments of film ever!

What, the picture with the Jack Nicholson character surrounded by many guests? That's not really "breaking the 4th wall", I guess.
I really love The Shining and I don't think I'm missing anything there :S
Oh, but Kubrick definetely has a MAJOR break of the 4th wall in 2001: A Space Odyssey. That's top-class stuff.
But I think this would be hoping too much, given the possibilities for the crew/cast for MGS movie xD

Um, yeah, it is breaking the fourth wall, he is saying we, the audience are the guests in the picture, and the clapping noise is meant to be us, enjoying the film and that. It's more of a subtle way of breaking the fourth wall; it doesn't have to be right in your face for it to do that.

They're clones; they can't have different actors playing clones, unless those actors happen to be identical twins.

I think Kojima said a whole back, there would be some changes to the plotline to make it fit for the film.

Getting rid of the whole Les Enfantes Terribles thing would be a pretty big change, though (It would also remove any chance of a Snake Eater film).

That may be so, but he did mention that the two Snake's would be brothers and that they may not be twins anymore, I would get you the interview for it, but I really cannot remember which one it was, it was a very early one; just after the MGS movie was confirmed at E3. If anyone can back me up on this, please do so with a link.

Having to find two actors that look alike enough to be plausible brothers would narrow down choices, they'd be better off sticking with clones.
