Yeah, but you can get the database from the Private Collection disc (which is even better due to the addition of graphics, instead of being plain text), so that even things out. However, you will be missing one of the funnier scenes in Act 3.

You mean the scene when Karen gets Jonathan's gun?? I wouldn't mind so much if it wasn't there (and it was in the PC version from what I've heard). I liked the dream sequence though. That would be missed. Anyway, I did hear that the graphics were improved a bit for the Saturn version. I wouldnt mind so much if Kojima had just quit there, but he had the perfect oppurtunity to improve upon the PSX version when Konami added Policenauts into their Books collection about a year ago. That would've been nice. Then the PSX version would be the best, most complete version there was. And I wouldn't have to have purchased an import Saturn all for one game.

It takes alot more effort to update a previously-released game than to simply just repackage the same software and sell it for a cheaper price. You just don't copy and paste code from one platform to another (especially considering all the extra stuff they added to the Saturn rev forced the developers to add a third disc to fit in everything).

Anyway, good luck trying to run the PC98 version of Policenauts on your PC. I gave trying to find a decent emulator months ago and none of the emulation sites I've been has been helpful at all. Anyway, the PC98 version has the most recorded dialogue of all versions, since it's a "rough cut" (so to speak) of the game. If a later version had a "new scene" not in the previous one, it was most likely something they restored from the PC98 version.

hmm, yeah, it's hard to find info on the pc-98 emulators as they are pretty much all Japanese, and interest in the pc-98 outside of japan is minimal.

anyway, instead of worrying about saturn emulators and such, just pick up an old saturn for cheap and grab an action replay cart for import play. and yeah, the saturn version is the best i hear.
in any case, there are many other reasons to pick up a saturn if you missed out on one back in the day.

alot of people are selling very cheap saturns with the switch already installed, thats how i got mine, and it works perfect.

What exactly do you have to do with the "swap" trick or action replay cart to get Policenauts or Snatcher to work on a NTSC Saturn? Do you just load a boot disc then put in the foreign game?

im not sure for saturn since i bought mine with a little switch on the front (switch to the left, english switch to the right japanese) but with playstation i use a mod and all you do is boot up a game with the spring in then put in your foreign game and play it....for the most part.

I see another problem. How are you going to beat the game if you only have disc 1?

I use an Action Replay RAM Cart to play Policenauts on my European Saturn. It's easy enough to find and it means you don't have to mess around with the hardware.

So I've had my Saturn for almost 6 months and I still haven't purchased an Action Replay RAM cart or any import titles. I'm thinking I might have to splurge on games next paycheck...

I just modded my saturn a couple months ago, and have gona game crazy ever since. Instead of paying a fortune on games, (even though i should) ive been burning them and changing the region code for easy use. Easiest way to get the rarest games....but illegal.
