Konami has finaly commented this item and they said all three games are same old what we've already seen. You can find this from TUS.
Just as expected =)
And just a worthless to me as i expected
Same here, but it is perfect as a quick money maker and as an introduction to the series for newcomers.
Yes, this item definetly will raise MGS4 salecount.

Yeah, it's good for introducing people who are new to the series, or haven't played all the games, but there isn't much to see for hardcore fans like us.

yeah that's my fear
I know I'll get it anyway but I don't really expect anything
I'd kill to have both MGS2 and MGS3 in anamorphic widescreen (the twin snakes is, too bad the game is meh), so that they'd look great upscaled by the PS3
but I guess I'm just dreaming

I'd like to think of myself as a hardcore fan, but I still haven't completed the original games yet. Also, I just finished the sons of liberty, and I figure that I'll finish it again before I get the third. This is gonna be kinda cool for me, since I don't own all the games and I also don't have the special edition of the second game.

Where did you hear that?
Here is a pic from play-asia.com, but it seems they have removed it...
But i swear they had this pic on play-asia previously.

??:
Anyway, you can see that the MGS1 is packed on PS2 case.
You were right man, it is in a DVD disc.. but no changes (aside from the memory card needed) were made.

To be honest, I think I'm hardcore/lame enough to consider buying this now. Very arbitrary additions like a 3D memory card icon and a new Konami logo are enough to interest me.

Let's hope they left the Policenauts music in the MGS intro. I think it sets a lot of the game's tone.

Yes, let's.
Of course, there's a chance that they may not change it at all. I'm not sure if Konami will even consider what logo's in the game. It'd kind of be false advertising to replace the KCEJ logo with a Kojima Productions one, too.

I agree that I also feel a bit tempted by such a minor change 87th. A Konami's consumer bitch I guess. I'll try to resist it. I can always insert my PS1 copy and I already have all my PS1's save games on my PS3.

I don't suppose anyone here knows if the MGS1 re-released in Japan last year changed the logo and music?

I must say I first played MGS1 on my PS2, and the "texture smoothing" option improved quite a bit the visual quality of the game. I bet it won't work anymore with this "PS2 port".

It all depends on what you mean by improving. I tested the same option, and to my taste, it was just blurred. But surely the emulation "smoothing" option on the PS3 will do kind of a similar effect. Maybe that is their real target.

Yup, just checked it...
The 20 anniversary release does have the same old Konami logoscreen as well as the Policenauts tune

Thanks a lot for checking. Nice to see it's the same.
Kojima would've had the head of the guy who changed it if it had been.

Well, just what was expected then.. and to add pain the
Japanese MGS4 won't have English subtitles, and they won't be fitting the japanese language on our release.

It's okay though, after I have a playthrough of MGS4 for my own region, I'll just buy myself the Japanese release (thanks to the region free addition of the PS3, thank goodness). I love the Japanese voiceovers for Kojima's games, they're always bloody good (and like MGS 2 & 3; far superior voice acting).

I agree with Henry Spencer, I'm definitely getting the Japanese version.

As far as I know the PS3 is not region free... games might be if the publisher decides to make them so, but they can always release region specific titles.
At least that was the idea that I had...

Yeah, it's up to the publisher in the end, but virtually every game released so far has been region free.

One good thing about this collection (if it is) is that they didn't release it carrying "The Greatest Hits" tag...

I was actually really dissapointed with this collection. I bought it, thinking that it had the special editions of MGS2 and MGS3, but it only had the first disc for each. Adding insult to injury, MGS1 wasn't put onto an actual ps2 disc. I went back to the game store, returned it, and bought the special edition of MGS3 (which they had in stock). I have to say that I was still tempted to keep it anyway, because it had some kick-ass box art for each game

What are the manuals like? Are they the originals?
