I would be quite open to this myself, no matter if it's just for the prologue or the whole game. If it comes as an HTML document with graphics and such, I would request that there also be a version optimized for printing with all the "rooms" in a list. I don't want to have to click around with my laptop while I'm trying to play; give me a paper version for convenience's sake.
In fact, I find this to be a very good solution for playing the PC98 version in particular, a version that cannot have its spoken dialogue translated without extensive reverse-engineering of the game, correct? We can have full-on translations for the other three versions (eventually) and this solution is quite appealing as a way to experience the PC98 version, which I would very much like to finish one day.

I'm throwing in my vote for releasing the script. Those who want to use it, use it. Those who don't, don't. I see it as a win-win situation (especially for those with different versions of the game). I will most likely use it to familiarize myself with the beginning of the game, but yes, in the long run I am still looking forward to using the patch in all its glory.

Dear God...
Marc-tan... That the collective would consider such a consideration makes me realize how potentially far away we are from the promised land... My heart... broken! Look!
Broken!

... But seriously, I trust in your decisions. I certainly wouldn't mind getting a sample of the script, but I'm not sure if I'd like the whole thing... I feel like it'd take away from the impact. A sample would stave some people for a time, though, wouldn't it...

Hell, just throw the script in a TXT, I've played a couple imports like that

I am starting to worry if the programming will get done w/in the next couple years
I'm sure all the people who care enough to play through it with a printout at their side will still play through and love the patched version.

I think this is an excellent idea. I've been diligently checking this site for over a year now and have to say I can't wait any longer to actual play AND understand Policenauts. If the best I can get is a script to play along to then so be it. I also have extensive webmaster experience so if an extra hand is needed in creating the interactive HTML script then I would be more than happy to help.

As shidoni said - we trust your decision. I mean, I wouldn't want it to be released but then again, I don't know what technical issues have put the patch on hold. If they aren't solved anytime soon, then at least people would enjoy your translation of the game.
But I'll be strong (I've finished the game in Japanese already after all) and will wait for the proper patch. I have everything I need: PS game, Slim PSP, and an hacker friend which is capable of install custom firmware on it.) and I'll wait the patch no matter what. ^_^

PLEASE!!!! PLEASE GOOOOOD! Ive been waiting FOREVER and I CANT TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!!!!! PLEEEEEEEEEEASE just release a cold txt translation and Ill just reference it alongside! Please! Youve done GREAT work and I LOVE you for it but I cant wait anymore! Ive been waiting since I was 13 years younger being scared to death that I was going to be snatched!
I love the idea of an html siderunning addon for the translation but thats a lot of extra work. Stick to getting the tranlation unbugged. But for now release a txt to all of us fans that have gone (litterally) crazy from waiting so long. The english translation was scrapped when they had troubloe getting the text to sync up (see the wikipedia Policenauts entry); youre probably having a similar problem.
Were all over-joyed that someone is finally helping this game come to America...but were DYING MAN! Were DYING! Please throw us a txt just for now to keep us afloat for a little longer.
PS: Thank you guys so much for your dedication. We all wouldve been SCREWED without this translation team! Thank you SO much!

I am personally all for the release of the script.
I realize my post may irritate the team behind the project (and perhaps the programmer, though I believe he does not spend time here), but there is a decent probability that the project will never finish. Of course I don't know the details of how the project is coming along but my reasoning is the following:
in the translation world, a project completed successfully are the exception, not the rule. I don't want to assume anything about the team's determination, but given the information we have, our best bet (bayes-style, if you want), is to believe the project won't be completed. This says nothing about the team skills or will, but it is very possible it is just too hard to complete. Moreover, the programmer has been working on this issue for a while now. Since we don't hear back a lot from how things are going, it is likely that it is either too hard to figure out, and perhaps he slightly gave up hope on it (on top of having many things to do besides working generously on this translation).
So, that's my guess. I hate to say it, and would love to be wrong (and again, this is not aimed at those behind the project), but i am not sure the project will finish. Given the translation is complete, I would love to see a script (or even better, an interactive script) released. Just my two cents..

Alternatively, you could just release the translated script and I can just reference it alongside. I'm assured that you've done great work and I appreciate that. I've been waiting since I was 1 year younger, when I first played Snatcher.
I'll use the html translation, if I have to, but that's a lot of extra work for me. But for now release the translated script for me, as I have grown (literally) impatient from waiting one year. The official English translation never existed. I hope this can serve as a substitute.
I'm excited that someone is finally helping this game come to America, but I'm really quite impatient! I'm impatient! If you could just release the translated script, it would spare you some similar posts from me in the future.
P.S. Thank you guys so much for your dedication. I would have not been able to understand the dialogue in a video game without this translation team, so thanks again.
Amateur dramatics, needless ass-kissing, and outright lies fixed.

I've been visiting regularly over the past 18 months, but the lack of progress updates has made me hope you'd release the script, even if in raw format, for us to assist us in our (first) playthrough of the game. Of course, when the patch is eventually done we'll replay the game, and probably finish it on other platforms too. It even might serve as a taste of the future reception of the full-fledged patch.

You can say whatever you want 87th. But I played Snatcher a shit load of years ago and have been waiting for policenauts to hit the US as soon as I heard it was in Japan. So take that response it misquote it.

Perhaps a conversation tree would work?
I am all for this, be it for the first act, or the whole game.

It's very nice of you to offer, but I would only like for the prologue to be released in text format, just as a teaser to get people excited for the real thing.

I would definately use the translated script, although my biggest fear would be that the patch would get scrapped.

It would be nice to have the script, because I'd like to play the PC98 version before the PSX one...
I played all the Snatcher versions in the order of release (even SD Snatcher) and thought it was awesome to see the evolution.

Yes indeed, that would be interesting to do, though in order to do that I'd have to learn PC98 emulation and 3DO emulation. Yech!
Are PC98 emus still glitchy with PCM audio?

I think a few people here have gotten the emulation to run well. I'm pretty sure that I remember somebody posting the intro here, and that didn't have glitches or anything.

Lol, wrong topic XD
Anyway, about the translated script, I'd say it's needed since some other group could be looking forward translate this proyect. If someone wants to be safe from spoilers, there's always the spoiler tag feature.
