Actually, I oppose that.
Fallout 3 is not a Fallout game!

I haven't played any other Fallout games. The first Bethesda game I played was Oblivion. Give me a break!

I will, but please don't call it a RPG, okay?

I just found it funny that you edited your post to say that, of all things haha. But even if you haven't played the previous games, it looks like any other generic fps, at least to me. I mean, don't let me discourage you, if you end up playing it and liking it then more power to ya.

RPG? Play Suikoden, another great series by Konami. And be sure to play Suikoden V. It's a NEW RPG that IS an RPG.
I don't think games like Oblivion should be called RPGs.. they're not "role-playing" They have elements, such as stats, but so does Castlevania.
Games like Oblivion and Final Fantasy XII, I call "Offline-Online games" and I also drop the RPG from MMO's. It's not like you have MMO-racing games, or MMO-FPS's.... or MMO-sport games. "MMORPG's" are just Massive Multiplayer Online if anything Adventure games, and have more in common with games like Mario 64 and The Legend of Zelda.

I think what defines a role playing game is making a character and watching his stats rise based on what you do. Also how the people and the environment effects you based on what you do. That is what Oblivion has and I like it. Then again I haven't really played too many RPGs so I'm probably wrong.

Fable seems like a good example of an RPG then... why are we talking about RPG's now (yep, I'm continuing it)?
Back to the topic, though. I think Metal Gear Solid is done, but Metal Gear is going to continue. What will happen next, I don't know but I'm sure new characters will be brought up and maybe old characters will be revived.

Metal Gear Solid can only continue in three areas:
Snake's time hunting bootleg Metal Gears, between MGS1 and MGS2.
Snake's time between MGS2 and MGS4.
And if Snake plays a supporting role, similar to 2.
HOWEVER Metal Gear Solid 3 has no real SOLID reference at all, but then what would you call it.
I'd like to see Metal Gear drop the Solid suffix and find something new but equally catchy. It's got to be a word though, not a name. Names forces the series to follow a specific series of events, or character and you'd wind up in the same situation once this arc "runs out"
Solid is a name, but also a word, so it's got flexibility, see? And personally I think calling the next game "Metal Gear 5" or Metal Gear 3" would be useless, if so, stick with Metal Gear Solid 5 for familiarity's sake.
I'm hoping for a new direction for the series, but if anyone deserves to return, I'd say Raiden does. He WAS taught by Snake, and the torch has been past. Although I'm not saying that for any sort of "Ninja Action" I liked Raiden better as "Jack" The slightly troubled soldier with a heart set on trying to do what's right. That's what I like about him. Has nothing to do with battle prowess.
I'd like to see them stay as far away from another Snake as possible. If that was their goal then they never should have put the original through as much as they decided on.
I'd also like to see the Otacon stay out of it, unless Snake or Philanthropy has reason to be involved, don't involve it. Although I see no reason why the VAs (Christopher and David) can't voice a separate character. Look at Emma or Peter Stillman. Or the Fury's VA voicing someone else in 4.

I love Snake, I love Hal, I love Raiden, but let them rest, I'd rather not see another game where my favorite character's pretty much get shat on, we need a new story, a direction, and a new person at the helm, with Kojima possibly and most likely producing.

Personally I would like the Metal Gear series to focus on military espionage and infiltration again, sure add some philosophy to the story if it makes the characters deeper but don't go batshit insane.

Yea that is a good tool to character composition but used to much it's like too much sugar, it will give you diabetes.

I still want lots of the philosphical bullshit in there, it's one of the many reasons I love Metal Gear.

Personally, I miss the death speeches from MG2 and MGS1. Those are the only two games in the series where Kojima did that...shame.

Big Boss gave a huge speech at the end of MGS4, and he was supposed to be dead... that counts.

Well, I suppose you could argue that it was Naked Snake and not the real, original Big Boss, but I'm not going to get into that debate again. My fingers still hurt from all the MG Politics and Story..
