Did you start the series with Fallout 1 not long after it was released, and then sticked with the series through Fallout 2, Fallout Tactics, and then watched Van Buren being canceled in favor of a bad console game?
Fallout 3 fails as a RPG, as a FPS and as a Fallout game.
Three strikes, you're out Bethesda.
I'm gonna go ahead and agree with this. It seems like rather than making a good, honest sequel to Fallout, Bethesda just went the easy safe route of just making a generic fps to try and cash in on all the love for Bioshock, Farcry, etc. Even from the perspective of a non-fan, the game looks pretty boring.

I totally disagree; Fallout 3 is
not just yet another generic FPS. It's more along the lines of Deus Ex, a first person adventure game. You can't just shoot in first person view and survive most of the time, you pretty much
have to use the VATs system to survive, in fact, most of the tim you will not be using the first person shooting method.
I played it at a friend's house, best game this generation, even though that ain't saying a hell of a lot.

Don't bother, if people don't understand it there is no point in explaining it to them.
Fallout never was suppose to be an FPS but seeing as Bethesda caters to a gamer generation who never played the original games or have been brought up with the mindset "its ugly and it is turn based" it is easy to see why they fall for this crap.

Jesus Christ! It is you guys who just don't get it. Fallout 3 was never meant to be a sequel to the other fallout games. It was meant to be a "marriage between the Fallout universe of Black Isle Studios, and the Oblivion feel and FPS gameplay of Bethesda." (Game Informer Magazine). You guys are too busy talking shit about how "bad" this game turned out to be to understand that it was never meant to stand up to the old games anyway.

Does that change the fact that these people don't like it?

Its shows that their reason for not liking it is unwarranted and complete bull shit, yes.

If someone doesn't like something, you cannot change how they feel. It's their opinion, and they're entitled to it, no matter how "bullshit" their reason is.

That's all fine and good but it's not an opinion we're talking about, it's a census. One that is based on a falsity. Everyone is entitle to their opinion. However the people are calling the game bad because it doesn't measure up to the first and second when in fact it was never the intention if Bethesda to measure up to the original two, but in fact to make their own version of Fallout using their style of FPS-RPG action. You have to judge games fairly based on the intentions of the creators. Not based on what you think they should have done or by the way its "supposed" to be. Fallout 3 is a great game and was NEVER meant to be part of the series, more like a spin off.

ak i've been trying to look the other way when you post things like that... but I just can't anymore.
The reason we dislike Fallout 3 is because it shits all over the original games, no matter how it's related to them. it doesn't have to be a direct sequel to be a joke. We dislike it because its a bad game. It does nothing new, at all, you even used a great quote, this game is basically an Oblivion mod. Also, all I ever said about any direct sequels is that Bethesda took the easy way out. Here I'll even quote my post for you;
I'm gonna go ahead and agree with this. You need to open your eyes and shut your mouth, ak.
I could go on and on, but I just don't feel like it right now. Maybe Ghost will?

Like I said, I understand completely and I still disagree. I love the game. I loved the older ones too. I don't think its an insult to Fallout.

Hello
Dick Motorman,
To be honest, I don't feel like arguing any longer, we have plenty of people like
Commander_AK-47 who keep repeating the same Bethesda propaganda over and over and over and never do any kind of investigation of why the older Fallout fans do not like Fallout 3.
It seems that their reasoning basically comes down to this "the older Fallout fans are afraid of 'change'! All they want is Fallout 1 and 2 over again, they're retarded. Fallout 3 is brilliant because it is made by Bethesda and Bethesda is the brilliance!"
I am going to say this once; WE ARE NOT AFRAID OF CHANGE!
To say that Fallout 1 and 2 were perfect would be retarded, there are plenty of things that could have been fixed in those games to make it even better, skills, NPC AI, gameplay mechanics.
Van Buren, the first Fallout 3 prototype that later got canceled brought in a lot of changes that us old style Fallout fans found controversial, guess what?
Despite these changes we still wanted to play the game as it really recreated the atmosphere of Fallout and expanded on it.
And yes, it would have been great if this game had also appealed to a lot of new gamers, making them try out a Fallout game and discovering the great gameplay and atmosphere behind the series.
Wrong, by all means it was meant to be a sequel, check other interviews other than those of Game (mis)Informer Magazine, even Tod and Emil said it.
Instead Bethesda did the only trick it knows doing because they knew that it made them money in the past.
Bethesda and journalists claimed VATS was like turn based battle, so why can't enemies start fighting in VATS?
You should honestly check out other sources than game magazines and sites that are instructed to keep on the good side of Bethesda.

I never said anything about being afraid of change. I simply said you guys were judging the game unfairly. And where do you, so esteemed man who knows much much more than I do about everything, suggest I get my info? Please I really want to be just as informed as you are about the truth. Listen, how about you guys just play games your way and I'll play them my way and you stop treating me like a noob.

The funny thing to me is Ak's argument of it not being meant to be a direct sequel, when neither me nor Ghost ever said it was (until today), that to me says that you, AK, do not understand what you read as you so diligently denied.

Still haven't gotten around to even playing this game, i've seen a couple videos for it, and I'm a little more interested in it than I was previously, it seems like a cute fun game. I'll have to give it a shot.
